NYU vs Georgetown money
Ok so I am on hold at HLS- if they accept this is a non issue. But i just got money to Georgetown and an acceptance to NYU. I got upwards of 20k a year from Georgetown.
Is NYU that much better that i shouldnt accept the money from georgetown? (money isnt a hige issue for me- im sure i can pay back the loans)

What are your career goals? Georgetown, because of their enormous class size and lack of a hometown market advantage is universally considered the poorest placing T14 (e.g. worst chance at BigLaw, etc.).izy223 wrote:Ok so I am on hold at HLS- if they accept this is a non issue. I would not say forget about the money. But I would choose NYU over $60k from Georgetown. If you could get $60k from MVPDNC then I would say go with the money.izy223 wrote:so if i want to do big law forget about the money?

And NYU will probably not (re: near 0%) be influenced by the Georgetown scholly. I don't think they view them as a peer school so the incentive to match the money is not there.

Re: NYU vs Georgetown money
You said $20k/yr in your OP...
Anyways, MVPDNC is Michigan, Virginia, Penn, Duke, Northwestern, Cornell.
And $90k total makes it a little more difficult because that is A LOT of money. Hopefully someone else can get in on this topic but with that much money, this situation is as close as a toss-up as you can get.

Re: NYU vs Georgetown money
With those numbers I'm surprised NYU didn't offer you money, although I've read that they average scores. That's a huge gap to have a 169 average btw. What happened on the first one? Anyway, I go to Georgetown on a full scholarship, which I would have taken over NYU I think--I withdrew from their waitlist when I got the money from GULC. That said, money was a huge issue for me. If it's not for you, this is a no brainer. NYU.

I just got hard. Great #s OP. Also surprised you didn't get cash at NYU. What's your status at the rest of CCN MVPblablah?

Re: NYU vs Georgetown money
When did you apply?
You should be getting money from CCN.
You also have a shot at HYS.

Re: NYU vs Georgetown money
I'm at NYU right now. $90k at Georgetown is a lot of money to pass up. I, too, doubt NYU will be influenced by Georgetown's scholarship offer, but I hear they're still in the process of determining merit scholarships. My opinion seems to lean more towards going to Georgetown.

I don't think NYU has released its scholarship information yet. Wait for that. Also, try to negotiate with MVPDCN

I'm going to guess you get between $15 and $25k a year from NYU. Wait on it.

Off topic, but why does everyone always forget about Berkeley when using the CCNMVPDNCG acronyms?

1. I usually forget Berkeley exists. 2. Berkeley is really black boxy in their admissions 3. Kids who are a Berkeley type are usually really upfront about it. 4. It's A pretty high cost school compared to the MVP tier.Real Madrid wrote:lawyerwannabe wrote: I would not say forget about the money. But I would choose NYU over $60k from Georgetown. Re: NYU vs Georgetown money
emailed NYU to see if they can meet the Georgetown deadline. They said they will try as hard as they can. hopefully theyll give me money before the deadline and my decision will be made for me.
there exact words were "Thank you for your email and your update. I see that you have completed your Need Access application. We will do what we can to get you a financial package promptly."
thanks for everyones help

Berkeley and Michigan don't really negotiate anyway.TemporarySaint wrote:1. I usually forget Berkeley exists. 2. Berkeley is really black boxy in their admissions 3.
