Maryland Fee-Waiver

Post by Linsanity » Wed Feb 29, 2012 5:57 pm

I just got an email from Maryland in which they offered to waive their application fee if I apply. I didn't ask for a fee waiver, and have had no contact with them. My GPA is above their median, but my LSAT is way below it. I'm thinking they just want people they know they will reject to apply so they can say they rejected a lot of people. Can anyone give some hypotheses for why the #40 law school in the country sent me an email willing to waive my fee?

just apply if u have a waiver, unless u r already in a better place, who cares if they r doing it just so they can reject u, u never know for sure, if ur not in a better school, send one in and see if u get in, always worth a shot when it's almost free
and maryland is a good school, u can also learn real life survival skills on the streets of baltimore at the same time

Since you got a waiver the worst the can do is reject you. Might as well send the app in instead of spending the next three years wondering "what if?"

They didn't just send them to auto-denies. I would be an auto-admit and I got one, so maybe they see something they like in you. Get 'em hell, kid.

I got one too. As Mr. Joad said, they're sending them to everyone.

I didn't get any from Maryland, but I've gotten them from accross the board, from T-14 schools down to TTTT schools.

The better schools tend to give them to people they think have a decent chance. The crud schools, I don't know.

WUSTL did this a couple weeks ago, sent it to eeeerrrrrrrrbody. Obviously just a way to boost their rejection numbers.

That being said...I still sent in the app...

This is mostly accurate. They are not the only school that does this, but they are definitely one of them. It doesn't mean you won't get in. But Maryland has historically had one of the lowest acceptance rates in the nation. They do play the numbers game.

6-7% is lowest in the nation. Maryland is more like 20%

Just sent in my app. I guess for a $16 it's worth a shot in the dark

I got the waiver too, went ahead and sent it in. I'm at the 75% LSAT, but well below the 25% for GPA. Hoping my Feb. score is higher. I've spent $16 on a lot worse things.
