Establishing Residency?

Post by dex8425 » Fri Feb 10, 2012 6:40 pm

I received my acceptance packet from UMKC and they are offering me 15k for the first year only. The 15k basically gets me in-state tuition, and they assume I can apply for and get in-state tuition for 2l and 3l. I have a guaranteed family job in Minneapolis so I basically want to go to law school as cheaply as possible without going to a Florida Coastal, etc. I have relatives in KC so I could live for free. Has anybody else been offered a scholarship with the stipulation that you can get in-state tuition for the 2nd and 3rd years? I'm obviously extremely wary of this. It's hard to tell how easy it is to get residency in Missouri. I did decipher that you have to live there for 12 months, but I know most states won't give you residency if you're there primarily for school...any other UMKC applicants in this situation?

People do it all the time. Most schools range between 6month-1year before they allow it.

You also should transfer your state ID and "intend to permanently remain"
