NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
Which one would you choose?
I'm planning on doing big law after too, but I don't really think that matters.
Just looking for opinions.

Re: NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
after conducting a rigorous scientific study, I have concluded that the answer is Columbia (because I go there and enjoy it)

Re: NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
NYU because I go there.
This is honestly done to death, but:
If you have no location/vibe preferences and the cost will be equal at both, then:
--If you definitely want biglaw, CLS probably has a minor advantage.
--If you might want public interest work, NYU probably has a minor advantage.
--While keeping in mind that 95% of people at either school would probably have 95% of the same options at the other school.
If you have location/vibe preferences, or one will be significantly cheaper, then:
--Go to the one you prefer and/or is cheaper.
That's really it.

Ivy league or state school...
if you are dead set on PI, I would go to NYU. Not because they are better for PI, but self-selection tends to send those type of people there. To the contrary, CLS is a very professional school.

Re: NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
I think that's a bit of anti-NYU trolling. idk, maybe you go there. but seriously, it's pretty well-known that NYU has some of the best support for PI. I've never heard anyone claim that was merely bc of self-selection.lawschoolgrapedme wrote:Ivy league or state school...

I'll agree that CLS is probably marginally better for big-law, but I think it's oversimplifying to boil it down to "ivy league vs state school."

If all you want is biglaw in NYC, you can just flip a coin. Its pretty easy out of either school, assuming you aren't bottom quarter of the class.

(BTW, any time you put a poll on this question it will skew about 60-40 CLS. Just calling it now.)

Re: NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
No one's gonna talk about class sizes? Columbia definitely has an advantage there.
Also Columbia has a nice campus, even though the law school building looks like a shitty cardboard box. On the other hand, I've always detested NYU's (lack of) campus...
If I had the make the choice, I'd do Columbia.

Re: NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
I think its something like 1300 to 1650 in terms of size. Not like its a huge difference in class sizes. Both on the larger side. But the beauty of being in the biggest and strongest legal market in the country is that the market can accommodate a huge number of grads from both schools.Curious1 wrote:No one's gonna talk about class sizes? Re: NYU vs Columbia (both sticker)
To be semi-helpful, just visit the two schools. CLS = quieter, shittier neighborhood, but you get a campus, so that's cool. NYU = busier, better nightlife, but you get hipsters, so very many hipsters. Also, if you go to NYU you have to deal with me, so that's another negative. It's looking like CLS is the clear winner upon further review.

Class sizes are very similar. We just have a lot of LLMs...Curious1 wrote:No one's gonna talk about class sizes? Columbia definitely has an advantage there.

I feel like we've had this exact same discussion with the exact same participants at least 3 times in the last 3 months.birdlaw117 wrote:Class sizes are very similar. We just have a lot of LLMs...Curious1 wrote:No one's gonna talk about class sizes? Columbia definitely has an advantage there.

Wrong. I didn't have finals to bring me here for the party.Curious1 wrote:I feel like we've had this exact same discussion with the exact same participants at least 3 times in the last 3 months.birdlaw117 wrote:Class sizes are very similar. I know. Its boring and essentially useless. We should have given a collective "use the search feature" responseCurious1 wrote:I feel like we've had this exact same discussion with the exact same participants at least 3 times in the last 3 months.birdlaw117 wrote:Class sizes are very similar. Also, I think CLS is done sooner than we are this semester. My last final is the 22nd. Point CLS.
