GWU cost of living

Post by beezy08 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 11:39 am

If there are any students at GWU or living in DC, are the living expenses below that GW estimates very accurate? I know the COL is high in DC anyway, but is it possible to live on closer to $20K a year than the ~$30K they estimate? The housing estimate concerns me the most.

Books and Supplies $1,550
Health Insurance $1,800
Loan Origination and Guarantee Fees $1,400
Personal Expenses $3,200
Room and Board $18,500
Transportation Allowance $2,200

If you're willing to live outside the district (in NoVA or Maryland) and commute in, or you're willing to live in slightly less nice places in the district itself, you can bring down the cost of living. You can bring down cost of living if you're willing to have a roommate, too.

The school's estimate is based on the idea that you're going to rock an efficiency/studio in Foggy Bottom/Georgetown by yourself all three years of law school. If you do something different, it gets cheaper.

That being said, the cost of living here is still obscene.

What I wanna know is why transportation is $2200 a year?!? Are they expecting that people take cabs everywhere?
