The resulting inflation is how i plan to pay for it.

Don't worry about it. The U.S. is borrowing at 2.9% right now so the markets aren't worried about it.

There is more likely to be deflation than inflation.Desert Fox wrote:The resulting inflation is how i plan to pay for it.

Well, since the interest rate you will be borrowing at will be like 15%, better hope we experience hyperinflation!!

If the US defaults, government-issued student loans will cease to exist, and anyone planning on using those funds will have have to either find another source of funds (good luck finding 150K), or not go.

I will highly consider not attending. Not only will interest rates skyrocket, the economy will contract and the duration of such a contraction would probably extend well beyond three years

The US won't default, so it is not an issue. 200 Billion a month in revenue should be just enough to pay 25 billion in interest. 3% on the ten year is all you need to know.

The case books look and feel like they'd make nice kindling for my eventual homelessness.

If they default, I'll do whatever Eric Cantor tells me to, because he is smart and reasonable

I think law schools would respond in some way that doesn't involve leaving 10% of their incoming class intact, like deferred payments or something.scammedhard wrote:If the US defaults, government-issued student loans will cease to exist, and anyone planning on using those funds will have have to either find another source of funds (good luck finding 150K), or not go.
There is a 0% chance I would take private loans, especially when the interest rates go to 15%, and I would hope most people think similarly.

This is why it's mostly political theater.AreJay711 wrote:Don't worry about it. The U.S. is borrowing at 2.9% right now so the markets aren't worried about it.
The debt is something that is more of a long-term problem. There's definitely not an emergency. Yet it gives politicians on both sides of the aisle a convenient excuse to implement policies that reduce the standard of living for the middle class.
If you take away the Bush tax cuts and the unfunded Iraq/Afghanistan wars, we'd practically have a balanced budget. It's not a major issue.
