Memphis v. UT-Knoxville v. IU-Bloomington

Post by Bobnoxious » Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:17 am

I'm 47, married, and have lived in Memphis for the past 25 years (still in culture shock), so both Memphis and Knoxville would be in-state for me. I'm originally from Indianapolis, and I want to go back to the midwest as soon as I can. If I go to Knoxville I'd be renting a room, if I go to Bloomington I'll be staying with family, and if I stay in Memphis, of course I'd be staying at home.

For someone my age, will it matter much between Memphis and Knoxville, or Knoxville and Bloomington, when it comes to marketability?

If I decide I want to practice in MS, TN, GA, or IN, how will where I want to practice weigh the scales?

Thanks.

For anywhere in TN, go to UTK. GA and MS, UTK might be a better option but in IN, it's IUB

If Tenn is where you and the family want to be, the UTK is worth it.

Sounds like you want to move and this is a great opportunity. How much would you be paying for IU?

I really don't know what scholarship amounts to expect, so I was assuming sticker at all schools in question. To be honest it's still a couple of years away, and I'm just trying to figure things out in case I need to, or should, do something drastic in the way of planning moves for me and my family. I'm pulling LSAT numbers out of thin air, but I *expect* to score between 163-166, and graduate with a gpa of 3.55-3.70, so if you have any idea about "likely" financial assistance from any of these schools with those numbers, feel free to base your answers on that.

Both Memphis and Knoxville tuition would be about $17k, and Bloomington would be about $35k.

Thanks

How bad do you want the Midwest? With those numbers UTK is going to give you a couple grand. Indiana will give you some real cash. Maybe find out if you get in state at IU if your wife has q job there?

Go to Indiana if you want to work in the mid west.
