USC v GWU

Post by ffffffff » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:19 pm

Sent my $1500 deposit to GWU last week after getting in off the waitlist there, today I got a call from USC offering me a spot for a $500 deposit.

Moving to DC from Cali would be fun but hectic and stressful. I don't know enough about the quality of the schools or job opportunities after to make a decision based on that.

Help

Nothing merit based, cost of attendance for either will probably be around $35k in loans. I could see myself working either west or east coast, but I've grown up in California.

where do you want to work?

usc is a better school than gwu, and it's a bit of a jump better, but you'll have a harder time getting back east. that said, gwu won't get you west so it all depends on where you want to be. at = price, i'd take USC. i'd take USC at anything under 40k in COA.

i'd take usc. i think it's more respected nationally, and is more respected in LA than GWU is in DC. it isn't head and shoulders though. i just think a usc diploma is more valuable than a gwu, that LA while struggling right now has less competition than DC, that the weather is better and that the usc alumni base is more faithful.

Clearly the only choice is to move to DC and commute to California.

$1500 of lost deposits at GWU are nothing compared to sticker, and are probably offset by the costs of your move.

USC is a better school, go there.
