Off WL @ Vanderbilt V. WUSTL($$)
Just got accepted off WL with $8k a year + $5k (sounds like one time) bonus that I could use for summer abroad or towards 2nd year tuition. I'm currently deposited at Wash U with $25k a year. Th goal right now is to do California or maybe NY big law. Need to decide by Friday
I'm assuming COL is roughly the same, let me know if I'm wrong

Vandy is definitely riskier but it aligns better with your goals. The best economic decision is probably WUSTL since it is far lower risk, but I think you take Vandy in this case if you are okay with shouldering more risk.

I think it goes without saying that Vandy is better in NYC and probably the west coast as well. WUSTL is more a strong regional school I believe. So the choice is coastal prospects over a cheaper school that has geographic limitations. Also Vandy is really strong in the south if you have any ties anywhere in the South Vandy will give you a strong backup plan there.

As it stands right now, Vandy.

I reread the OP and I didn't realize that the preference for CA over NYC at least implied to be pretty large. I agree with this.ndirish2010 wrote:UCLA?
OP, if you really want CA then you should retake/reapply for at least a T14 or USC/UCLA.

WUSTL: 60k + ~60k COA = $120k
Vandy: 103k + ~60k COA = $163k
For ~$43k difference over the life of your career Vandy is a no brainer. And we place just fine in California despite the "southern schools cant place anywherez outside the south" mentality on here.

I would just say to bust your ass to get into UCLA. Call dean schwartz and do whatever you need to, but if you want CA, Vandy will still be tough.dangerdan wrote:WL at UCLAbk187 wrote:I reread the OP and I didn't realize that the preference for CA over NYC at least implied to be pretty large. Depending on OP's GPA, UCLA may not be a possibility.fingersxd wrote: I would just say to bust your ass to get into UCLA. Call dean schwartz and do whatever you need to, but if you want CA, Vandy will still be tough.

I'm on pretty much the same boat. I received $84,000 from WashU and just got in off of the waitlist at Vandy yesterday with the same scholarship as you. I'm really interested to see what everyone has to say. Are you leaning more towards one or the other?

IMHO there is a night and day difference between Vandy and WUSTL. Vandy places better and that's a fact (maybe not in St. Louis). Also, I liked Vandy's campus much better, and Nashvegas weather/women > St. Louis weather/women.

I'd really like to check out Vandy next week, will call tomorrow to see if they will extend the decision deadline until then.chriso175 wrote:I'm on pretty much the same boat. Hmm. I got 90 from a school that is fairly similar to WUSTL, let's say, and 45+5 from Vandy. Chose the first one because money was a very big issue, I didn't care where, geographically, I practiced (honestly), and coming from a Mid-Atlantic rural town of 5,000 simply didn't really love the prospect of going down to a city in Tennessee. That being said, Vandy was beautiful. Definitely loved it a lot. And it seems like you definitely do have an idea of where you want to go and, as has been said, Vanderbilt seems to be the better option to help you get there. You definitely won't go wrong attending there. WUSTL is fine too, but, yes, you'll *probably* end up working around there.

Just sent my check into Vandy, maybe I'll see you there. Good luck with your decision if you haven't made it yet.chriso175 wrote:I'm on pretty much the same boat. I'd say COA is more in the range of 15k at either school (for sure WUSTL) if you do it right.pleasetryagain wrote:WUSTL: 60k + ~60k COA = $120k

I think you probably made the right choice, OP. The added debt is worth it if you want NYC.
