Yes because $30k at Vandy isn't that much money. That being said, you won't hear an answer back from whether you will be admitted to UVa until September when apps open, right?

Also, you should retake the LSAT to try and get more money from these schools.

I honestly doubt they would do this.

I'd definitely go to UVA over Vandy with only 30k total scholarship. But that's only if you have something to do during your year off.

Duke did something similar last year, where they changed waitlisted applications to ED for this year, in an effort to take advantage of the competitive application pool. But I dont' know if a school would do it on demand just because you don't like your current options.

Sounds risky and likely wouldn't really matter too much in the long run. Unless you're ridiculously committed to going to UVA and don't mind essentially turning 3 years of law school into 4 I say go to Vandy and kick ass.

How come? VA resident, ED, and above a median.
Honestly I don't know too much about reverse-splitters. Just quick glances off of hourumd/LSP numbers, which admittedly don't account for VA residency. I'd put your chances at ~50%-60%ish, which is decent but imo not good enough to commit a year to unless you are also planning on applying to the rest of MVPDCNG, in which case... you should retake.

As they say, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush... and all that.

Yep, but when I applied I had a 3.84. By the time I got it up to 3.87 it was January.
i think i recall talking to you - i'm sorry how things ended up. not to make you feel bad but it seems as if they've taken a number of VA residents off the waitlist so far this cycle, so the fact that you haven't been taken off yet maybe should caution you a little about your chances next cycle. i dunno, go check it out on LSN

Not sure that it's worth the gamble--especially since you already applied ED to Virginia.

That might actually make a difference since their GPA median has been 3.85 for 2 years in a row. Assuming that because of lower apps they won't be able to lower it, I think your shot next year will be better than this year. That being said, I doubt they will give you a decision now (but it is worth asking) and it would still be worth it to retake the LSAT.

Well I forgot to mention I retook the LSAT today. I tanked one of the sections and cancelled. Maybe they decided to avoid making a decision on my application until my score came in?

Theoretically, if they agree to accept me for the Class of 2015, do you think it'd be worth taking a year off rather than go to Vandy?
i honestly have no idea. maybe? i didn't apply to vandy so i can't weigh the options. this is coming from someone who's going to UVa though

Keep your fingers crossed for me.
You are from VA and getting into UVA has been your dream. Don't go to Vandy. Retake, and try to bump up your LSAT. Go ahead and apply to UVA ED again in October, and have them wait on your new test.

... It's not worth taking a year off with nothing to do to get a bump from Vandy to UVA. There's a difference in the two schools, but not big enough that it would warrant the opportunity costs of taking an entire year off...

I think you are luckly to have gotten into Vandy with that low LSAT score. UVA isnt going to take you without your raising your LSAT score.

+1 here.

Also, I suspect UVA will only move you to ED next year if you can tell them something concrete and interesting that you have lined up instead. Certainly if you can get a decent job, that might help your application next time around....but then again, you will only have worked for 4-5 months before applying so there's probably not much value there.

Listen, it never hurts to ask UVA what you can do, but w/out re-taking I feel like you need some amazing softs for them to even consider you and it doesn't sound like you have that.
