GW vs. UC Hastings vs. Northwestern Wait List
Still deciding where to go.
Am deciding between GW and Hastings right now and waiting to hear if i get in off the wait list at Northwestern.
No money at any place. I am from Los Angeles and in the long run want to be in southern california but feel as though DC would be a great place to go to law school and GW is higher ranked (20 vs. 42). nervous about employment thought if want to come back and work in CA after law school though
Any help would be much appreciated in choosing between Hastings and GW. Also if i get in off the waitlist at Northwestern I need to go there right because it is t10?
Thanks!!!

Re: GW vs. UC Hastings vs. Northwestern Wait List
If your ultimate concern is California employment, the difference in rankings will not overcome the proximity to the market that Hastings gives you. Plus, as a CA resident, sticker isn't that big of a pill to swallow. If you get off the WL at NU, I would definitely go there. It gives you more opporunity nationally than the other two schools
p.s. NU isn't a T10

Anything not in the T13 isn't worth sticker. Withdraw from GW and Hastings and just ride the waitlist. If you don't get it apply, ED to NU next year.

Given your goals:
NW > HASTINGS > GW as I don't feel confident people in Cali know that much about GW.

This. And possibly retake the LSAT depending on the current score.Desert Fox wrote:Anything not in the T13 isn't worth sticker. Withdraw from GW and Hastings and just ride the waitlist. If you don't get it apply, ED to NU next year.

re-reading this, I don't think GW or Hastings are smart for so-cal, even if you had a big scholarship. Hastings is going to struggle in a legal market that is already struggling and has UCLA and USC. I'm also inclined to think Pepperdine might outshine Hastings in so-cal. Why didn't you apply to Irvine?

Hastings is good for SoCal. However, it is a bad idea at sticker.flexityflex86 wrote:re-reading this, I don't think GW or Hastings are smart for so-cal, even if you had a big scholarship. Disagree here. Hastings is manageable in Socal. It isn't "good" for socal.bk187 wrote:Hastings is good for SoCal. I think you're overrating the significance of a T10. The drop off between CCN and MVP is bigger than the drop off between MVP and BVDNCG.bjsesq wrote:This.JamMasterJ wrote:p.s. NU isn't a T10

NU sucks, and everyone knows it. It belongs in WUSTL territory.flexityflex86 wrote:I think you're overrating the significance of a T10. The drop off between CCN and MVP is bigger than the drop off between MVP and BVDNCG.bjsesq wrote:This.JamMasterJ wrote:p.s. NU isn't a T10

Re: GW vs. UC Hastings vs. Northwestern Wait List
I might have been stretching it with good so I don't think we actually think that differently. I think Hastings is passable in general for either NorCal or SoCal, but I wouldn't go so far as to recommend Pepperdine or Loyola over it at equal cost.Curry wrote:Disagree here. That being said I know we can both agree that it ain't worth sticker.

Several state law schools (e.g., Georgia & UNC) not ranked among the top 10 are worth sticker for in-state tuition (resident tuition) for those wishing to remain in the area.

I wasn't trying to make a statement. NU literally is not in the T10. It's number 12flexityflex86 wrote:I think you're overrating the significance of a T10. The drop off between CCN and MVP is bigger than the drop off between MVP and BVDNCG.bjsesq wrote:This.JamMasterJ wrote:p.s. NU isn't a T10

You might be able to negotiate money from Hastings. Have you tried calling/emailing to let them know you're concerned about the financial burden, even as an in-state student? If they want you, they might pony up.
