WUSTL and UIUC for Chicago and NYC
the title tells you all you need to know. I would like to start a discussion about placement into NYC and Chicago from WUSTL and UIUC. UIUC definitely cleans up in Chicago, placing about 60% of students there every year. WUSTL places significantly less in Chicago, but they do place about 15% annually in NYC every year as opposed to UIUC's 5%. I feel like with UIUC you'll have a great shot at Chicago but with WUSTL everything is do damned unclear. They place like 33% in Missouri and after that its a big freakin mystery. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

I know you've read the WUSTL vs. UIUC topics, but they're pretty much as close to peers as you can get.

I've debated this topic forever. I just do not want to live or work in Missouri after I graduate so it feels like such a blow to go to WUSTL while not wanting to stay in Missouri when they place 33% in Missouri. Theres a good chance Ill be at UIUC in the fall due to their Chicago connections but I also want the chance for NYC!!! I just don't think another 10% of students going to NYC is enough to pull me to WUSTL, where I will also be paying another $25k or so in tuition over three years.

UIUC deposit is due today so you're pretty fxked either way. I'll buy you a beer if you choose to join me in CU.

Though I was attentive enough to take heed of this deposit deadline, I nevertheless thank you for your reminder. I do disagree, however, with the notion that I am "fxked either way". I am optimistic because it is the way I must be

Pretty sure the MO placement's self-selection, 'cause you ain't getting anything in St. Louis if they have the slightest suspicion that you don't wanna be here - being forced to stay in STL won't be an issue. If UIUC is 25k cheaper, go there. That isn't close enough to negate any advantage WUSTL would provide.TheSteelKid wrote:I've debated this topic forever. The 10% difference you mentioned, for one thing. Alumni network (WUSTL's bigger so there are more alumni, in addition to their location) would be an advantage in NY, but you're fine with Chicago - I'd go with UIUC in this situation.TheSteelKid wrote:stratocophic wrote:Pretty sure the MO placement's self-selection, 'cause you ain't getting anything in St. Louis if they have the slightest suspicion that you don't wanna be here - being forced to stay in STL won't be an issue. LOL
Both these schools place negligible amount of grads into NYC big law. If you want NYC you should be applying to Fordham. If you want Chicago, go to UIUC.

I would seriously consider fordham if....A) they hadn't waitlisted me, and B) I receive money from them!

I was recently in chicago for the first time for like 36 hours and had a good time. Definitely a great city.Id say they are both awesome in their own right. NYC is America at its finest though, in my opinion.Desert Fox wrote:Learn to love the midwest. Since you apparently want someone to decide for you, I've decided you'll go to Chicago-Kent.
