Notre Dame or Wake Forest?
I am from the northeast, obviously. I would like biglaw and would eventually like to transition into business. I have the 2 following offers. I felt like Wake would offer a more enjoyable/fun experience while ND would open more doors. I would PREFER to stay on the east coast but would be open to biglaw anywhere minus out west.

Not likely to get big law out of either school. ND would afford you the best chance at Biglaw somewhere. However, since you don't want to live in the west, the allure of ND is somewhat diminished for you. Seems like WF is your best bet if you absolutely must live on the east coast.

The only thing ND has going for it over WF is a fairly good football movie. Save the cash and go to WF.

None of these will reliably get you BIGLAW.

Neither is great for biglaw, but ND is better. If you like the northeast and got into ND did you apply to BC/BU/Fordham?

Because I am not paying sticker at said schools.
What is the Biglaw difference between the 2?
Anyone else have any thoughts?

With absolutely no data to back it up I am guessing you will have a fighting chance if you are in the top 20% at either school, with ND having a slight edge.Northeast wrote:Because I am not paying sticker at said schools.

I know Biglaw doesn't necessarily equal to the top 250, but according to NLJ, ND placed 23% in the 250 and Wake placed 15%.Northeast wrote:Because I am not paying sticker at said schools.

Anyone know if Wake has any placement outside of NC?

I think you'd have better odds if you took the 60k difference between the two schools, flew to Vegas, and let it all ride on black a couple of times rather than pick either and planning on biglaw.dpk711 wrote:I know Biglaw doesn't necessarily equal to the top 250, but according to NLJ, ND placed 23% in the 250 and Wake placed 15%.Northeast wrote:Because I am not paying sticker at said schools.

45k is basically nothing when we are talking about law school debt. consider yourself very fortunate!

well... nothing is actually nothing... (note: i'm WF biased, being as I may be there next year)uzpakalis wrote:45k is basically nothing when we are talking about law school debt. consider yourself very fortunate!
so that being said do you thin kit is worth 45k for the increased chance in biglaw?
What region do you prefer? I feel like either choice would be completely reasonable if you want to work in its respective region. Not to discredit the poll, but I think TLSers have a bit of a prestige whore problem and ND outside of the south east has an edge on WF. Although living in the south, I would say everyone has heard of ND, but because of football, not education. Lay prestige around here is that WF is better than ND.

I know there are some large Atlanta firms that pull a fair number from Wake.Northeast wrote:Anyone know if Wake has any placement outside of NC?

I'd take the cheaper school. Neither is a sure thing for biglaw and Notre Dame certainly won't get you to the Northeast.

The WF v. ND debate seems to be coming up a lot lately. I think ND is worth an extra $45K.Northeast wrote:looking for more thoughts. with WF i go into no debt, however, with nd i go into about 45k of debt.
Roughly top third have been getting Biglaw (or Art.III) these days, which is manageable, especially when you consider that like half the law review went into PI last year.
Be advised that the kids who go to the NE tend to be top kids headed to top firms, which you'll find at any (decent) school. I wouldn't rely on being able to do it easily.

To me this is not close. People keep saying that you have no shot at Biglaw from NDLS, but this is not true...top quarter gives you a decent shot. You CAN get back to NYC, but you just need to be top 5-10%...this is going to be the case at any non T14/Fordham/BU. Better chance from ND than Wake.

Re: Notre Dame or Wake Forest?
Tbf, the relevant comparison should be the % of ND kids that "stay" (not really, but close enough) in IL.wester0 wrote:Per the official ABA guide:Northeast wrote:Anyone know if Wake has any placement outside of NC?
Wake: 55.3% employed in NC. Graduates employed in 20 states.
vs.
ND: 6.7% employed in IN. Graduates employed in 34 states.
I had no idea so many ND grads left the state.
We still "win," but it's closer (and more valuable as a comparison) than your figures. Obviously ND is not an *Indiana* school; the question is to what extent you'll be stuck in the midwest.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
