Indiana U-Bloomington VS. U Maryland

Out-of-state for both. Received $10,000 a year for IU but nothing for UMD. I want to pursue Environmental Law, but I want a collegial environment as well. If there are any current students of either school, I welcome your thoughts.

IUB, assuming it's easy to get in-state there. Enjoy Indiana for the foreseeable future.

Sad panda. I was not planning on gaining in-state residency anyways. If I am going to have to pay, I just wanted to ensure that I enjoy the experience and of course, job prospects.

Thanks for your input!

I know. Honestly, I wasn't expecting to get in so the fact that I got any money was a surprise to me.

IuB just has tons of money to throw at people. I agree that its gotta be IuB unless Maryland is willing to give you more money through negotiations.

I am awarded $30,000 a year for law school in scholarship from Amnesty International outside of any additional money received from either school. Does that change anyone's opinion about which school to attend? It is just hard to ignore the rankings in spite of everyone's reservations about it.

IUB is higher ranked but still mostly a regional school. Where do you want to word OP?

I have very little preference as to where I work upon graduation. I just want to enjoy my law school experience while still being able to obtain a career. The part-time thing at UMD has me worried about establishing a collegial environment with my peers, but it I feel that their clinics and their specialties in Environmental and Health Care Law are more geared to my interests. I will admit that there is a part of me that cringes about the idea of living in Bloomington coming from being in big cities my entire life.

Having somewhat of a national reputation would be nice, but some people on TLS seem to be pessimistic when it comes to assumptions about certain schools have a certain reputation (IF YOU AREN'T A T-14 FORGET IT...ETC). I got accepted into Tulane with 50% scholly. I adore NOLA and Texas, but their low percentage of employed students upon graduation honestly scare me. If you want to ease my fears then please do so :)

So you have a $90,000 scholarship no matter where you go?

If no preference for location, pick the one with the best employment stats and head there (which I believe is IUB).

Can your amnesty international scholarship be used at any time? Or do you need to start using it asap? I ask becuase if you could start your first year of the scholarship next year, then you could retake and apply to your top choice ED. Not many people have the option to apply ED knowing they will have a 90k scholly, and if this is the case you should seriously consider retaking.

However, if you could only begin the scholly this year I would go to IUB without hesitation, unless you got into a school that has better employment stats and you simply have yet to mention it.

In your situation, I'd take Tulane, but IU: B is so LSAT heavy that I would retake, and get the full ride.

The LSAT is at least somewhat of a predictor of law school performance, and IU: B this year has hella smart people with hella high LSAT scores relative to its ranking so I think you'll be competing against top 14 aptitude with top 14 leeway in employment prospects.

The scholarship begins for this academic year so taking the LSAT again is not really an option. I just found out yesterday that I got into WUSTL and am pretty sure that is where I'll be heading.
