West Virginia ($?) VS Qunnipiac ($$)
Just got out of the pool and into WVU. COA would be about the same (slightly cheaper at WVU -- though I am going to attempt to negotiate a scholarship). Have a 15K scholarship from QU right now.
I don't mind West Virginia at all, for the record. It's a really gorgeous state and I wouldn't mind working there at all.
I am just really stumped as to what to do here. I realize that WVU is going to be strictly regional (WV, maybe a bit of Kentucky and MD), but that's fine with me. It's also a better school than QU, from what I've read. I'll be visiting WVU the week after graduation (20th or so?).
Have to decide by the 1st of June or so for the second seat deposit deadline at QU.
Leaning heavily towards WVU right now as long as the area checks out and I like the campus.

I would never go to any of these schools unless it is a full ride.

The question is which one of the two. Hence why there is no third poll option. If there was another option, it would be on the poll.dpk711 wrote:I would never go to any of these schools unless it is a full ride.

If you don't mind living in WV, I think that is the obvious choice. Not as much competition from other schools.

I think you answered your own question. Don't attend a school that is third out of three in it's own State.joncrooshal wrote:I don't mind West Virginia at all, for the record. It's a really gorgeous state and I wouldn't mind working there at all.

I work in WV and WVU is king there. People look at me like I'm stupid for possibly wanting to go elsewhere. It's a good program and if you enjoy the state, go there.
Edit: You can also find work in Pittsburgh if you decide you want out of WV since Morgantown is only about an hour south.

What about residency because West Virginia seems to be very difficult to reclassify. For the record, I applied there but withdrew because of the whole residency thing.
But if COA are the same WVU wins hands down.

In all reality, it will be cheaper at WVU anyway due to COL being dirt cheap. Granted, I'm not fronting my COL (parents are covering that). I'm just fronting the COA.mpj_3050 wrote:What about residency because West Virginia seems to be very difficult to reclassify. I'm going to visit them later this month. The residency thing kind of sucks, but it is what it is. Seems like most state schools are like that.

Yeah, that was my logic. I really love the QU campus and I really like the area. But it's scared me a bit recently when I've been really analyzing things. WVU is king in WV and some outskirts of the other areas I listed. Would rather go with the king in a region I don't mind than the pauper in a region I don't mind.Case2L wrote:I think you answered your own question. Quinnipiac is also regional, and its name is less recognizable compared to WVU. Go to WVU.joncrooshal wrote: I don't mind West Virginia at all, for the record. It's a really gorgeous state and I wouldn't mind working there at all.

Yep. My thoughts exactly. I was just speaking to a good friend who went to Hofstra who was all on the WVU bandwagon. Says it just makes much more sense to go there than to go to a law school in a cluttered market like where QU is. I completely agree with him.tea_drinker wrote:Quinnipiac is also regional, and its name is less recognizable compared to WVU. On the off chance I get off of Rutgers Camden's wait list, I think it looks like I will be at WVU next year.

Why didn't your Hofstra friend take his own advice?

WVU should be fine for what you want. Decision is even easier if your parents are a safety net for the debt, if they are fronting your COL it would appear they may be.
