UCLA vs PENN. 3 days to decide
I just got into UCLA off the waitlist after already submitting a seat deposit at UPenn.
They both would be at sticker (although UCLA is slightly cheaper since I'm in-state).
I have no idea what i want to do after graduation.
I went to UCLA undergrad (as you probably can tell by my username), I have family and friends in LA, and love LA.
I visited Penn (before hearing from UCLA) and also loved it, but at that point, I thought I was going there 100%
Any help/advice is appreciated! Thanks.

Joke? Penn. Unless you are talking about Penn State.

Not a joke. I guess I'm hesitant to leave LA for 3 years in Philadelphia merely based on the "better placement" argument that I've heard before.

Both at sticker? Unless you have a burning desire to stay in LA, definitely Penn. Outside LA, Penn will have a bigger draw, and in LA, Penn isn't that far behind UCLA

Dont understand why this argument wouldnt be enough to have you leave LA. The point of law school is to get a job, not to hang out with friends and family for 3 years. Theyre both at sticker, Penn will give you better opportunities, you loved it when you visited, and it does have better placement. Adding in the fact that you have no idea what you want to do, you'd be crazy not to go to the school that will open more doors at relatively similar costs.bruinkid8 wrote:Not a joke. Picking UCLA over Penn isn't crazy at all if there are scholarships involved, but at sticker cost for both you're going to be in so much debt that I'd want the best possible chance of paying off my loans.

OP, do the right thing and join me in Philadelphia (unless you're a gunner, in which case, you should go to UCLA!)

I don't think you can go wrong with either school. It seems like you want LA for the long term, where UCLA would be a fantastic choice. In your case, I'd take the opportunity to leave LA for an even better school that will definitely let you come back to LA (Penn is an even better choice if you pair it up with a degree from Wharton). If you decide on UCLA, I'll see you there next year. If not, have fun at Penn, I've got a friend in his first year at Penn and he's having a good time.

It's ok lol, we all know that you're only a Bruin for the time you attend UCLA, but you're a Trojan for life.speedyj88 wrote:I know, I knowdpk711 wrote:Ahh, you traitor!!!speedyj88 wrote:Also +1 on this, I still don't consider myself a bruin. Go to Penn...enjoy life outside of LA for a few years and you can always go back after.bhan87 wrote:Both at sticker? Unless you have a burning desire to stay in LA, definitely Penn. Outside LA, Penn will have a bigger draw, and in LA, Penn isn't that far behind UCLA

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to just lay on the beach all day saturday and think to myself "hmmmm, do I really want to leave this?" If i can come to terms with it, then I'll see you all at Penn. If not, then I'll be back in Westwood.

LA is a severely overrated city bro.bruinkid8 wrote:Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to just lay on the beach all day saturday and think to myself "hmmmm, do I really want to leave this?" If i can come to terms with it, then I'll see you all at Penn. If not, then I'll be back in Westwood.

Seems like an odd way to think about paying off $200k.bruinkid8 wrote:Thanks everyone for the advice. Jersey Shore isn't far away. If you're lucky, I'll even teach you how to properly fist pump.bruinkid8 wrote:Thanks everyone for the advice. UCLA might give him better opportunities if his friends and family can introduce him to LA attorneys.trudat15 wrote:Dont understand why this argument wouldnt be enough to have you leave LA. Behind UCLA? The doods in my section targeting LA turned down full rides at UCLA to come to Penn.bhan87 wrote:Both at sticker? Unless you have a burning desire to stay in LA, definitely Penn. Outside LA, Penn will have a bigger draw, and in LA, Penn isn't that far behind UCLA
Although, after living thru a Philly winter, one does wonder if it was worth it.
