who thinks davis is better than hastings!?! i'll fight 'em!
kidding.
they are peer schools. both have pros and cons, but overall are extremely comparable. both are great schools in a tough general area (northern ca/bay area) during a tough economic period. better times are hopefully ahead.

OP: The question seems slanted. What about the people who think Hastings is better than Davis regardless of rankings? General Tso would be all over this...

There isn't an appreciable edge between them.
But Davis has far far lower CoL.

I never got people's infatuation with Guad's. I mean it's decent/good Mexican food but it never blew me away like it seemed to for my friends.camelcrema wrote:+Guad's

I respect that, I definitely know people who weren't all that wowed by it. I, however, am part of the group that went into Guad's withdrawals over winter breaks.bk187 wrote:

Edit: but yes, I would think Davis > Hastings after having lived in Davis and worked in SF, but only based on quality of life.

Not that it means much placement-wise, but what accounts for UC Davis' meteoric rise in rankings? Wasn't it in the 40s a mere three years ago?

It depends which one you go to. Seriously. The one on Mace is tons better than the other one.bk187 wrote:I never got people's infatuation with Guad's. I mean it's decent/good Mexican food but it never blew me away like it seemed to for my friends.camelcrema wrote:+Guad's

I guess that depends on what the definition of quality of life is...camelcrema wrote:bk187 wrote:

WTF is this? Are y'all seriously arguing that the QOL is better in Davis than in SF?

Re: If Davis was not ranked 23rd...
As someone who has spent significant time in both places, I can definitely see the appeal of Davis. Quieter, less distractions, cheaper, more open, etc. Would I want to live in Davis as someone in the workforce? No. Would I want to live in Davis over SF as a law student? Very possibly.crit_racer wrote:WTF is this? Are y'all seriously arguing that the QOL is better in Davis than in SF?

Point taken. I would still prioritize living in a stimulating environment, but that's b/c I deal well with distractions. Besides, I figure you can always find a quiet place to study (even in SF). Having said that, i know a chick who moved to NY to attend Fordham Law and messed up her 1L year pretty badly due to excessive partying, etc.bk187 wrote:As someone who has spent significant time in both places, I can definitely see the appeal of Davis. Another reason why it's important to be mature and have a solid understanding of yourself before choosing a school/starting LS.

Re: If Davis was not ranked 23rd...
I can work well with distractions too. Though having a giant fucking apartment for a lot less money might easily sell me on Davis over SF (as a student), and I think that might be one of the reasons I would choose Davis over Hastings (if I were making that choice).crit_racer wrote:Point taken.
