NYU $ vs UCLA $$$$

Post by parsi » Thu Apr 21, 2011 1:01 am

Hey everyone...

So i got a 37.5k total Scholli at NYU and will get 25K merit + ~15K need a year at UCLA. My family is not well off and will not be able to help me with my debt or anything.

Realistically I want to live in california at some point in my life. I was born in new york and think I would really like to go there, but I wonder how hard it will be to get a job back in california

Are the job prospects from NYU substantially better?

Job prospects coming out of NYU in general are much much better, but I don't know if I would say the same for CA placements. If you have no ties to CA and truly want to work there, take the money at UCLA.

What do you want to do career wise, btw?

If you are sure that you want SOUTHERN Cali, you should take the money. If you want PI or anywhere else in the country, pick NYU

NYU would be alot of people's pick here since the job prospects are substantially better, but UCLA sounds like what you really want. I think it's defensible.

My goal is to get a biglaw job and start $$$. this does take precedence over location so I would understand working in NYC after NYU

Im moreso looking at the NYU debt:

will it be difficult to pay off?
