GULC (105K) vs Penn (???)
Just got in Penn and was wondering if it is a financially unsound decision to go to Penn sticker over GULC with 35k/year.
I haven't received a package from Penn yet so the sticker price is hypothetical.

I don't think it really matters what his career goals are. If Penn is at sticker, I'd take G'Town in a heartbeat. I assume there are no options in between?

How much do you think Penn should give me if it is to be a financially viable choice?Upton Sinclair wrote:I don't think it really matters what his career goals are. If Penn is at sticker, I'd take G'Town in a heartbeat. I assume there are no options in between?

I think the three votes for Penn deserve an explanation.

Anyone who votes for Penn has got to be a bit delusional when it comes to debt (or is a 0L, though I guess thats a redundancy)

For BigLaw, I would start to consider Penn at around 30-45k here. Without knowing career goals in advance, it would probably be more like 50-60k. As given, GULC.

40 or 50k and I'd start reconsidering. Personally I wouldn't go for less than $60k though.dpk711 wrote:How much do you think Penn should give me if it is to be a financially viable choice?Upton Sinclair wrote:I don't think it really matters what his career goals are. I'm a 1L, saddled with $200,000 in debt. That's at least five (and much more likely 10) years of making huge monthly loan payments, IF I'M LUCKY. Take the cheap road.

the thing that scares me though is that even with this huge GULC scholly im 100K in the hole and the constant TLS bashing of GULC of being the worst T14 hasn't helped either -- Penn does seem to place significantly better than GULC but thanks for the advice so far guys...

I am in the exact same situation, except its 105k scholarship at GULC and 72k scholarship at Upenn. If I end up at one of the two, it will be Penn.

I think in your situation it's almost a no-brainer -- unless you were absolutely sure that you wanted to do something like PI.miracle2011 wrote:I am in the exact same situation, except its 105k scholarship at GULC and 72k scholarship at Upenn. If I end up at one of the two, it will be Penn.
