John Marshall vs. DePaul vs. UB
Anyone have any advice or suggestions on what would be the best option...
John Marshall: full ride (3L)
Buffalo: 17k tuition (84)
DePaul: Sticker (84) - trying to negotiate a merit scholarship
I live in Buffalo and really don't want to be there but the financial incentive is hard to pass. I am going into Intellectual Property, hoping to work in the entertainment industry, preferably NYC or Chicago. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

You probably won't make into NYC coming out of Buffalo. Of your two choices for the Chicago market..DePaul would be my pick. However, IIT Chicago-Kent is really one of the best choices in the city for IP law. Do some research on it and see if you can boost your numbers to get in.

I'm going to Loyola in Chicago. Let me know if you need a roommate.

Buffalo is the only school that I would even consider here and only if you can get a little more money. DePaul at sticker is financial suicide, and JMLS has horrible employment placement.

DePaul at sticker is a very tough pill to swallow. If you REALLY want to be in Chicago post graduation, then you should consider it. If Chicago holds no value for you, go to UB.
Don't go to John Marshall.

DePaul at sticker shouldn't be legal. John Marshall has absolutely no placement because of the 17 or so schools that outplace it in Chicago. If you are 100% not cool with living in Buffalo post-grad then you need to retake, if you're fine with living in Buffalo I would try and ask for a little more money and go to UB.

Would it be worth it to go to UB, then transfer out somewhere in NY or Chicago at a T1 school?

Do not go into law school assuming a transfer. To transfer to a school like Fordham, you'll need to be top 5-10%, and even then your odds of landing a solid NYC job are not going to be a given. My rough guess is that you'll need to be in the absolute tippy top of the class (like top 1-3% kind of material) to get into CCN.chb462 wrote:Would it be worth it to go to UB, then transfer out somewhere in NY or Chicago at a T1 school?
So do NOT NOT NOT go into law school assuming you will be able to transfer. Sure, keep it in the back of your mind as a goal, but do not assume it. In all likelihood, you will never have the chance.

John Marshall, even with a full-ride, should be yanked b/c of Chicago living expenses alone.
I would go with Buffalo; 18k tuition is a hell of a lot better than Depaul at sticker.

No no no to John Marshall. It seems extremely difficult to get a job coming out of their, especially in this market. Even DePaul is better, but people I know in the Loyola/DePaul pool have still had a very tough time...

I'd willing to split an apartment in Chi-town so living expenses will be a bit cheaper if interested.
