BU with 75k or GW with nothing
Any thoughts? Being in DC would be awesome, but the money is drawing me to BU

1.) where do you want to work after graduation
2.) even if you answer DC to the first question, I would have a lot of trouble recommending GW at sticker.
BU seems to be the winner in my mind.

Where are you from? Career aspirations? Are you debt-averse? Choosing a law school is an incredibly personal decision that cannot be made solely on dollar amounts.
ETA: damn. FuMan beat me to it.

BU. I am surprised at your hesitation. I'd choose BU over GW, even at sticker.

Unless OP is married and has a house in DC, where his SO works full time, and wants to work there after LS....columbia86 wrote:BU. I am surprised at your hesitation. I'd choose BU over GW, even at sticker.
Like I said in the post above, this is not a clear cut choice without more info.

As someone who's in at both, and in love with BU, I'd take BU. I'm grateful for my GW offer, but if BU even comes close to matching it, I'll take it. So go, we can be drinking buddies if BU shares some love with me.harryminorhood wrote:Any thoughts? Being in DC would be awesome, but the money is drawing me to BU

I got 106k from GW. If BU offered me 75k, it would take me some time to decide between the two. I think you'd be insane to take GW at sticker over BU with 75k unless your mission in life is to live in D.C.
1) Edit the OP and create a poll.
2) ???
3) Profit

Re: BU with 75k or GW with nothing
I am not wed to an particular city after I graduate. Working in Boston, New York, or DC would be fine by me. I'm definitely leaning toward BU as well. The only reason I hesitate is that I've spent the past 2 years working in government/policy and I'd be very interested in all the opportunities I would get a GW to work for the federal government.
But GW sticker is hard to swallow, especially when BU is being so generous

As long as Mass isn't worse than Pennsylvania, I'm good though.Always Credited wrote:Just remember that Happy Hours are banned in Boston.ArthurDigbySellers wrote:As someone who's in at both, and in love with BU, I'd take BU. Re: BU with 75k or GW with nothing
Scholarship money is so damn unpredictable sometimes. I'm hoping to get BU to budge-and admittedly haven't even gotten my finaid package yet, but who knows. Take the money and run, as they say. The market in DC isn't that great, and the financial suicide that is GW at sticker would a lot of pressure on top of the already inherent pressurecooker atmosphere of law school

BU's tuition is also significantly lower making their schollie effectively something like 95k versus GW
BU all the way UNLESS you want to work for the federal gov't---even then, BU seems to place decently well there

Re: BU with 75k or GW with nothing
DC is a damned expensive city to drink in anyway---and 75k goes a long way to helping with drinking money. Also, rent is skyhigh in the nice parts of DC, while Boston isn't as badAlways Credited wrote:Just remember that Happy Hours are banned in Boston.ArthurDigbySellers wrote:As someone who's in at both, and in love with BU, I'd take BU. BU. Boston has fairly high living expenses, but if GW is giving you no tuition, BU definitely. Congrats on your acceptances!
