UT vs. Vandy
So, both of these schools would cost around 60k for me to attend (vandy is around 5k more). I want biglaw, and not in NYC. Would prefer Texas or California. I also would prefer a smaller law school. Which would be better?

Smaller school = Vandy
I suggest you visit both schools and see which you prefer.

Do you have ties to TX or CA? If not, you pretty much have to go to UT (or a California school) if you want either market

Texas is a T14, and thus a national school. Go to Texas.

I don't think the fact that Texas got ranked #14 makes it a national school. imo, it's T13 now.Hannibal wrote:Texas is a T14, and thus a national school. Go to Texas.

Does this mean GULC was never a national school and TLS was lying the whole time?AssumptionRequired wrote:thisPLATONiC wrote:I don't think the fact that Texas got ranked #14 makes it a national school. imo, it's T13 now.Hannibal wrote:Texas is a T14, and thus a national school. Go to Texas.

Im assuming you are joking.... UT is not any different from last week. Do you know why the schools were used in a "T14" designation before? Not only because of the numeric rank....Hannibal wrote:Does this mean GULC was never a national school and TLS was lying the whole time?AssumptionRequired wrote:thisPLATONiC wrote:I don't think the fact that Texas got ranked #14 makes it a national school. imo, it's T13 now.Hannibal wrote:Texas is a T14, and thus a national school. Then...did GULC stop being a national school this year as a result of Texas tying them at #14?PLATONiC wrote:noHannibal wrote:Does this mean GULC was never a national school and TLS was lying the whole time?

Using the term "T13" now is retarded unless it's meant to exclude Georgetown, in which case the previous distinction of "T14" was retarded because nothing about Georgetown has changed in the last week.AssumptionRequired wrote:

The T13 designation is just a way for TLS people to troll about GULC being a diploma mill. You guys are taking this sway too cereal.Bildungsroman wrote:Using the term "T13" now is retarded unless it's meant to exclude Georgetown, in which case the previous distinction of "T14" was retarded because nothing about Georgetown has changed in the last week.AssumptionRequired wrote:

Although the fact that Texas being included in T14 doesn't change GULC overnight, the same can be said about Texas as well. The fact that it got bumped up a rank doesn't mean that it magically turns into some national school. /thread

Being at UT will make things easier from a networking perspective (and with the # of TX firms recruiting), but Vandy certainly won't preclude you from getting back here.TheThreader wrote:ties to tx, weak ties to CA

I'm not arguing that it does. By the way, the whole "T14 is national, all others are regional" claim is incorrect.PLATONiC wrote: Although the fact that Texas being included in T14 doesn't change GULC overnight, the same can be said about Texas as well. Yeah, GTown is no longer national because Texas tied them for 14.Bildungsroman wrote:I'm not arguing that it does. More like...T14 as a whole is no longer national because Texas is T14 and not national. GTown may very well still be national...FuManChusco wrote:Yeah, GTown is no longer national because Texas tied them for 14.Bildungsroman wrote:I'm not arguing that it does. Re: UT vs. Vandy
Doesn't T14 represent the 14 schools that have held the 1-10 spots over the years? I am probably going to UT and am proud that it moved to #14, but I don't think T14 means the top ranked 14 schools. Texas has been in the top 14 before, but it never broke 10.
As for the OP, I think the general consensus at TLS is that UT and Vandy are peer schools. I would think UT would be better for Texas, Vandy better for the east coast. If you want Cali, did you consider UCLA?

Re: UT vs. Vandy
I grew up in Texas and went to UT for undergrad. That said, I know quite a few Vandy kids that end up in Texas, especially if you have ties here. The Vandy name travels well in Dallas and Houston. UT would probably beat out Vandy in Austin, but that's not to say it's impossible to go to ATX. Visit both schools and decide, but I definitely think you could come to Texas with a Vandy degree.
