WUSTL ($114,000 scholarship) vs. Michigan (sticker)

Post by jsullivan24882 » Fri Feb 11, 2011 4:04 pm

I really do not know which one I should choose. I do not have any preference as far as region of the country goes. I basically just want to work in biglaw when I graduate. Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

Biglaw or bust, there's no question.

Made this choice. Went with the Wolverines. Job opportunities, at the very least, seem far superior @ Mich than at WUSTL, especially if (1) you don't perform as well in law school as you hope, and (2) the economy decides to take another dive.

If you are set on biglaw, go to Michigan. It's not even close.

If you want biglaw, midlaw, clerkship, et al. then go to Michigan.

If you want gov't or public interest, then go to WUSTL.

I'd be happy to pay sticker at Michigan, but being able to graduate from a school like WUSTL with only ~60k debt is pretty awesome, and to me would beat out Michigan with ~180k debt. Maybe I'm completely wrong, but if you can land a good job coming out of Mich, you can probably do it coming out of WUSTL. But if something goes wrong and you can't get a biglaw job, at least the debt is manageable.

+1 on that. My answer was just between the options you gave, an intermediate option might be even better.

I got waitlisted at Vandy. I didn't apply to UT or UCLA. In hindsight I wish I had applied to UT.
