GW sticker versus Wash & Lee $$$
I've gotten into GWU but do not expect any scholarship money. I've received a $31,000/year scholarship to Washington and Lee, so the respective tuitions would be $40,000+ and about $10,000. My dad lives in DC, so living expenses aren't as much of a problem. DC is also where I'd like to end up working. What do you all think the pros and cons are to these two choices?
Thanks in advance.

Given your scholly offers/career goals, W&L sounds like the better option. Have you applied to W&M?Autoaccept wrote:I've gotten into GWU but do not expect any scholarship money. Yeah, but they haven't gotten back to me as of yet. I predict an acceptance but probably without much money, if any. So you don't think it would hurt my goal of working in DC to go to W&L as opposed to GW?

BigLaw placement is somewhat lower at W&L, but you also have to consider how much debt you'll be leaving school with. For most people, 60k and a ~1/5 shot at BigLaw is a smarter investment than 200k+ and a ~1/4 shot at BigLaw.Autoaccept wrote:Yeah, but they haven't gotten back to me as of yet. Do you really want to live with your father while in law school?

It's preferable to paying DC rent while attending GW at sticker, I think.

Understandable. I wasn't making a joke, just genuinely curious.Autoaccept wrote:It's preferable to paying DC rent while attending GW at sticker, I think.
I know for myself that if I had to move back home, I think I would struggle to be studious compared with living on my own. Not sure if that's worth 5 figures a year though.

No way I could live with my parents for 3 years during law school. I'd end up offing myself by the end of the first semester.bk187 wrote:Understandable. I wasn't making a joke, just genuinely curious.Autoaccept wrote:It's preferable to paying DC rent while attending GW at sticker, I think.

If I were you I'd go where the money is. Look at your finances and see how much you'd spend at each school (COL + tuition) and pick the cheapest (probably W&L).Autoaccept wrote:I've gotten into GWU but do not expect any scholarship money. W&L gets my vote.
I think your shot at DC biglaw from GW is comparable to your shot at DC biglaw from W&L.
