Am I insane?
24, leaving a stable, extremely interesting, internationally-oriented job with the federal government (paying ~85k/yr) to go to CCN at sticker?

Yes, stay where you are at least until things settle-down economically. At your age you can easily wait a couple more years without hurting your shot with firm. Also, do you know how difficult it is to get an "extremely interesting" law job (even from CCN)? You may want to forgo law school altogether.Anonymous User wrote:24, leaving a stable, extremely interesting, internationally-oriented job with the federal government (paying ~85k/yr) to go to CCN at sticker?

Are you in line for a promotion or raise ? If so, then it really depends upon your desire, & your connections, to be an attorney in a very tough job market. Can you take a leave of absence for a year ? Or can you attend law school on a part-time basis ?

Insane? Maybe. But if you decide to go can I have your job?

Yes.
Because at 24 this job is still interesting. Give in another couple of years and in all likelihood you will tire of it. At that point CCN will still be there and you will have a (relatively) easy way to transition careers. If, in a few years you haven't tired of this job, then it's one you shouldn't be leaving to begin with.

An older student coming from CCN with substantive government experience isn't going to have problems getting a firm job, as long as they can sell that they want to be at a firm.Nogameisfair wrote: At your age you can easily wait a couple more years without hurting your shot with firm.

This is true, one of the guys I summered with was significantly older (late 30s I think) and from CCN. He had a PHD and I think he did really well connecting with the partners because of the feeling that he had done a lot before.LurkerNoMore wrote:An older student coming from CCN with substantive government experience isn't going to have problems getting a firm job, as long as they can sell that they want to be at a firm.Nogameisfair wrote: At your age you can easily wait a couple more years without hurting your shot with firm.

I left a good, stable job (that paid less than yours, however) for law school. Like me, you've been out in the world, and (presumably) you have a post-law-school plan, and you're talking about really good schools. So, no, you're not crazy.

Get an MBA, if you can get into CCN and you have work experience you can get into HSW.

Except he said that it is extremely interesting.
Law school isn't going anywhere. It will still be there when he starts getting bored.

Make a pole.
And Yes, you seem insane.... unless LS > interesting, well=paying, stable career.

It's probably with the State department as a foreign service officer or similar and the OP probably just made GS-11.Anonymous User wrote:what 85k a year international Govt jobs are there for 24 year olds ?

You know, some people actually want to be lawyers. People need to quit this everyone should go to business school advice.HITeacher2 wrote:Get an MBA, if you can get into CCN and you have work experience you can get into HSW.
To OP - if you want to be a lawyer, go for it. Otherwise, if you enjoy your job, continue working.

I would seriously consider how much is the pension worth on top of your salary, and if it is worth giving up. If I was in that situation I would probably try to get money to go part-time if I am deadset on a JD.

You know one of my dear dear friends had a motto- "If you got a job that allows you to pay for law school---you aint got any business going to law school" and she had a point cuz lots of people go to law school because they don't see any other viable career options for themselves...(which is obviously not your case

I'll bet that my job was more interesting; it was so interesting I had groupies. Like I said though, didn't pay quite as well.LurkerNoMore wrote:Renzo wrote:I left a good, stable job (that paid less than yours, however) for law school. I really wanted to be a lawyer; I'm assuming the OP does too.

My office used to be a helicopter. Just because a job is interesting/enjoyable/pays well doesn't mean its the right thing for someone - especially in the long term.

Dude, fuck working in helicopters. I was constantly hitting my head on shit and getting leg cramps. Plus, I was right up against the weight limit all the time.vamedic03 wrote:My office used to be a helicopter.
