Hey, I just got in to Chicago-Kent and was wondering how it is viewed within the Chicago legal market? Also, i was wondering how well it does within in Chicago compared to how other "secondary" law schools do in their own respective city (American - dc, bls/cardozo/st johns - NYC, loyola - LA, plus any of the other Chicago schools). Thanks for any insight.
Just want to say that when I say "secondary" I am just not talking about the top-14 and such schools. I am fully aware that schools like GULC, NYU, UChicago, etc do the best in these cities.

Re: Question about Chicago-Kent
Kent is viewed fairly well in the Chicago market. The problem is the market is oversaturated and you have 3 schools in the state (NU, Chicago, UIUC) which clearly will beat you, on top of all the other schools such a Notre Dame and Wash which call Chicago their home market (Oh, and then there's the entire t14 trying for that market as well). Kent and Loyola are on the same level in Chicago with DePaul slightly lower. If you're realistic about your job expectations you'll be fine, but just realize that there are other schools in secondary markets who have a lot less competition (Pitt, Miami, U of Florida, OSU, etc.)

Re: Question about Chicago-Kent
There are 11 law schools in Florida, Miami is a tough market, and the U has plenty of competition from UF, FSU, FIU, and the very top of the other TTTTs in the neighborhood. I can't speak for Chicago, but if its legal market is worse than Florida right now, then I'd stay FAR away.BarbellDreams wrote:Kent is viewed fairly well in the Chicago market. Re: Question about Chicago-Kent
I feel like going to Miami and competing with UF and FSU is better than going to Kent and competing with NU, UIUC, ND, Wash, DePaul, Chicago, LUC, and some of the other T1's that go there (t14's will go to both markets if they choose so I didnt really include them). Not advocating Miami, just saying that if COA is exactly the same I would consider Miami over Kent simply because of competition alone.
