Why run an opinion poll on a fact question? This is like taking a survey on whether the Earth is flat.

I still like to think at night that the earth is flat - The Earth is just being lazy by doing that whole "shape of least resistance" thing it likes to do.

I think it was like 12 hours/day, 7 days/week. I remember someone calculated it out and figured that he must've gotten about 4-5 hours of sleep every night, which seems counterproductive to me, but obviously worked for him. Doing this is a recipe for burnout so I wouldn't go that extreme until you're hardcore prepping for finals (5-6 weeks before exams).

Second, what makes you think xeoh's approach is the best one? It certainly produced good results; however, other approaches can too.

Third, there are several excellent V10 firms. But to be clear, many non-V10 firms are generally considered to be superior to V10 firms. More than that, many non-firm options are--at least to many people--superior to firm options (e.g., certain DOJ Honors components, clerkships, corporate in-house work, high-end PI). And I say this as someone who summered with and is ultimately headed to a V10 firm.

In other words, you might be better off directing your energy towards other questions.

Although I concur 100%, I do enjoy watching gunners gun. People who tally hours per day and flaunt how much they work like it's dollaz in their pocket bring teh lulz.

50 - 60 hours all together seems more than enough at the beginning. 55 - 75 seems good leading up to finals.

To read the cases, go to class, type up your notes from class at the end of each day, go through he E&E's for the section and then make an outline at the end of the week took no more than 40-45 hrs per week. Prepping for finals is easily 12-14 hrs per day because there are 4 hour practice tests to take and then review, but you also arent going to classes or reading any new cases.

Chill out Broski. Jw how many hours this epic grinder put in 1L. I was curious- so I made a poll. You kno roughly how many he worked outside of class? I wanna (1) emulate this approach and (2) PROFIT? Arrows approach seemed OK but not nearly as conducive to issue spotting at a sky high WPM and booking your section. Also- why u mad about me lovin the v10s? Maybe I should rephrase- he at Wachtell/ Susman/ Boies/ DPW/ Cravath? DOJ honors prog has nothing on these firms. Lets be real here, bro.

Yeah, there's a finite amount of information here from which to learn. Even if you were to studiously work through every post-case Note hypo, read multiple supplements, outline as you go, do every CALI lesson, etc I honestly don't believe that would require 84 hours a WEEK.

But I also felt the same way about outlines...I really do not understand how people come up with 100+ pg outlines. Maybe other schools move faster than UVa, but I simply would not be able to make a 100 page outline for any class. 45ish tops.

Yeah I feel the same way about outlines too. Mine were 20 pages for Civpro, 12 pages for Ks, and 9 pages for Torts (with a 1 page short outline). But, I have not gotten any grades yet, so I may have totally effed up!

The last time xeoh posted he transferred to Stanford. I am sure he did alright in the job search. V10 firms do not mean as much in California, the V10 is biased in favor of NYC firms.

As for hours, it's pointless to try to tabulate them. You have to work for as many hours as it takes for you to comprehend the material. You test you comprehension by taking practice tests. Xeoh's method is solid, I based my note-taking/outlining on his method and have had success. I did not, however, work as many hours as he claimed to. Although, I am not #1 in my class, either.

Well, NYC does have the most legal work, this is credited. But the best firms in DC/LA aren't going to be adequately reflected in the vault rankings.

I just pulled up Vault to look at this:

8 W&C
10 C&B
14 Gibson Dunn
15 Latham

I'm not seeing anything there that seems out of place. Sure, some of the practices at these firms (especially W&C) are as good or better than their higher ranked counterparts, but the V10 NYC firms have so much more volume that it seems appropriate for them to be ranked higher.
