Dude, think of it this way, sticker at UCLA = at most a 40% chance of big law, if you like those odds, pay sticker, if not, then dont. It's only worth it if you get the job you want. If you live in CA, have connections to CA, and go to UCLA, there is a good chance that you can get one of those jobs you want, i say go for it if the debt doesnt scare you. I'm not a huge fan of UVA sticker, though it would be better than UCLA sticker, but only if you already have California ties. If you don't have ties, go to UCLA to establish ties and enjoy debt. UVA ED sticker is a decent option for those with toilet GPAs. Except you don't have a toilet GPA. Retake the LSAT in June bro namath if Feb. isn't to your liking. Enjoy $$ at T14 with a 170+ LSAT.

This is the sad truth. But it's the truth. I'd take UCLA at sticker for LA any day. And I would have. If I had gotten in! It's OP's call, although I think most TLSers will tell you it's worth it in this case (from CA, want LA).

Its kinda funny cause he doesnt go to a T14..... Not saying he doesnt know his shit, cause he does, but im under the impression he goes to a school ranked below UCLA, even if it is with partial money.

UCLA is a good school, and 90% of people not obsessed with this forum will tell you it is a great school. Having grown up here (and currently here for winter break, F this weather) I know that UCLA places well in CA and no firm IN CALIFORNIA is going to take someone from UVA over UCLA with same grades.

But UVA does place very well on the West coast as long as you have ties, which it sounds like you do. It would not be a bad choice if you got in (if they keep their same system you will).

Anyways, UCLA=good choice for Cali.
UVA=good choice for Cali, but it also offers more mobility, so maybe that is your best bet. Its nice to be able to bid heavy on both NYC and Cali. Even if you dont want NYC, its the easiest market. And a good job is a good job.

My numbers could have gotten me basically low T14 with no money, or 15-17 with hefty money, so I took the latter. I wouldn't have gone to 15-17 or most of lower T14 sans money, FWIW.

Local govt. is low on funds. Not sure how many positions there are left really. Small firm is all fine and good for $40k-$50k, but not with $200k loans on your back. You can love the law all you want, but I guarantee you'll probably hate it at that rate.
