Retake if it is an option for you. If not, I would be happy to answer any questions you have about Penn State. I have a specific thread where I am taking questions if you are interested. I think you have a good chance at admission with your numbers and I have had a great experience at the school so far.chalhou1 wrote:Looking to get into the best school possible and with 3.78/158 I think I can get in. I really would like to retake but I need your opinions. I already have taken a year off and don't want to take another. If I take the december retake will it be too late to apply to schools for fall 2011?

Re: Penn State
In my opinion, Penn State is a great school and is worth the application. Is there a particular field of law you are looking into?chalhou1 wrote:I really would like to retake but I need your opinions. I already have taken a year off and don't want to take another. Penn State is trash, and it's not even a public school. Retake.

Re: Penn State
I can't comment on the Burgh, but in Philly, employers would probably look to Penn, Temple, Villanova, and Rutgers Camden first.TT09 wrote:How does it do in The Burgh/Philly?HeavenWood wrote:Not for Harrisburg/Lancaster/York. Re: Penn State
As a Philly area native and current senior at Penn State, I can tell you that if you're trying to break into law in Philly, Villanova and Temple are much better options. Penn State is in the middle of nowhere. There is zero legal market around here, and there is no reason for a Philly firm to take a Penn Stater over a Temple or Nova grad, unless the Penn Stater had a much better resume.
That being said, Penn State is awesome for undergrad, much better than the others, but we undergrads have no attachment to the law school. It's kind of like a forced appendage on the campus, because it's located so far out of the way from the rest of campus. If Penn State law gets you a few bites in Philly, it's probably because they're basing it off of the undergrad reputation, which is very strong there.
I would also retake, because even a rise of a few points would hugely raise your prospects.

I think MSU law is a poor mans penn state law.TTH wrote:Penn State is trash, and it's not even a public school. Retake.
THe only good part is that someone might confuse penn state with Upenn.

Except I don't think anyone hiring in Pennsylvania would do that, unless they're already bottom of the barrel.thexfactor wrote:I think MSU law is a poor mans penn state law.TTH wrote:Penn State is trash, and it's not even a public school. Retake.

Re: Penn State
Dunno about Pittsburgh, but you've got an uphill battle in Philly. Temple dominates the market, and you'll also have to compete with grads from 'Nova, Rutgers-Camden, Widener, Drexel and, unless the NYC market picks up, Penn. Penn State might do you for the rest of the state, but if you want Philadelphia, go to Temple.TT09 wrote:How does it do in The Burgh/Philly?

Re: Penn State
Just in case anyone wants to get back on the topic of Penn State, I'm wondering what people have been hearing about the job prospects for Penn State grads. I don't need to be employed in a major city, and I'd be fine working in Harrisburg or something, but are students getting jobs or are they struggling?
