First time poster: JD/MBA & Florida Law School Programs?
Hello there and so happy I have found this forum.
I am currently in my last class at Ashford University and will finish with a 3.5+ GPA for my BA in Public Relations and Marketing. I'll be 40 in December and have over 10 years experience in business/sales. I have always had a strong interest in Law, but never thought about pursuing it as a career until the last few months. My interest in Law would be Family Law and working with children.
I have several questions and any honest responses would be appreciated.
1. Since I am a business major, would a JD/MBA joint degree be worth it. Reading through some previous posts here, I can see that if I am going to pursue a career in Law, that a MBA may not be needed.
2. I currently live in St. Augustine/Jacksonville area, BUT my GF and I are planning on moving to the Sarasota/Tampa area this coming summer of 2011. Who are the best Law Schools in that area for me to look into? And do any of them offer evening/weekend courses since I DO have to continue working to support my family (GF & a six year old son)
3. Are there any reputable Online Law schools? As previously mentioned, I am finishing my BA at Ashford U and have done all this Online. If there is not a good Law School in the Sarasota/Tampa area that offers evening/weekend classes, an online Law school may be my only option.
Thanks again for any advice,
Bradley

The only place you're looking at for part-time in Tampa/St. Pete is Stetson. But they're not prestigious, and employment prospects are dim in this economy. Also, it's expensive, and it's not worth going to unless you can get probably a full scholarship to hedge risks. The legal economy is that bad right now. If you already have a successful career, I'd think long and hard about going into law right now.
Do NOT go to ANY online law school. Waste of money.

I can see Sarasota having a law school in the next 20 years. Seems like its the same model for the rest of the TTTT ones in FL, attract people with good weather/beaches and Sarasota has the best.

Stetson, unless you're willing to go to school in Gainesville (UF). Job opportunities are not great for Stetson, but it's OK if you get a decent scholarship, if only for placement in the Tampa area, because that's all you can do with a Stetson degree basically...

Stetsons limits you to TTTampa (bias alert: I'm from there), UF gives you the option of all of the state. plus, UF is cheap. choose UF.

Stetson would be all right if you get a full ride. Honestly, if I were you I would get the hell out of Florida.
