What would you choose? UConn vs Pepperdine

Post by JRey » Wed Jul 21, 2010 9:29 pm

I am struggling with this decision and trying to weigh the pro's and con's of both choices. Figured It'd worthwhile to see if anyone had any input on here that I'm overlooking.

some side notes.

I'm from CT and the majority of my friends and family reside in the CT/NY/MA regions.
Also, I am interested in entertainment law.

what would you choose and, most importantly, why?

What the hell is the deal with people wanting "entertainment law"? Stop watching Entourage and pick a real path to pursue.

As far as where, where do you want to be? Pepperdine won't exactly bust open doors on the East coast, but the same goes for UConn on the West coast.

Any money on the table?

lol I had a feeling I'd get a response like that when I was writing that entertainment part. It's just that I love music more than almost anything, and if there's some sort of ancillary way for me to keep it involved, I know enough about myself that I know that it would give me a certain drive that would be lacking in any other situation. but that's neither here nor there.

anyway, based on the schools, it sounds like it probably comes down to where I want to applying the degree in the workplace huh? like east coast / west

some monetary incentives for UConn based on state residency. Pepperdine, none. But the money is not a deciding factor for my situation.

Stop being such a baby and go to UCONN. That is your home.

Then go wherever you want, if money isn't important.

As a fellow CT resident (hi!), it'd be very difficult for me to pass up $20k / year tuition at UConn for $40k tuition at a school ranked 1 place higher, especially when I have no ties to the geographical area and only a vague interest in an industry that seems to be terribly difficult to break into. You'd also be leaving behind your friends and family for probably at least a few years after graduation. I know money doesn't seem to be an object to you, but I think there are other reasons to choose UConn, even if you've got a room full of gold dubloons at your disposal. You can certainly stay involved with music at a local level in West Hartford / Hartford?

I struggle in my hopeful future school choices between my desire to get out of CT (I did my undergrad here too) and the fact that with no scholarships, UConn + COL would be almost $30k per year less than other alternatives as per my estimate. So if you just want to get the heck out of dodge, I get it. But please think hard about it, unless you do really have the dubloons.

Also, if you pick UConn, you can show me around when I come to visit campus :)

The decision between UConn & Pepperdine should be easy due to their vastly different locations & campus cultures. Read the school profiles on this website, Top-Law-Schools.com, for insight on both law schools.

UConn. You're primary consideration should be post-graduation employment, not some ambiguous field of law that likely does not exist (all law schools teach contracts and negotiations, and that pretty much consumes "entertainment law"). UConn is, for all intents and purposes, the best law school for Connecticut. The same cannot be said about Pepperdine and CA. Debt should be a major consideration, and UConn wins out in that category as well.
