Best choice if I want to work in NY? (UCONN vs Brookly Law)
Just wondering is anyone had any words of wisdom for me.
I would like to work in New York after school. I am accepted to UConn and Brooklyn Law as of right now, and Brooklyn would like me to give them word by tomorrow. I was just wondering if i'd still have the same work prospects from Uconn, based on its higher ranking and still relative proximity to the city.
any advise or relevant information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Is BLS offering you money? If not, I would reconsider the entire thing. That school is a hole. I have several friends who recently graduated who are screwed in more ways than I care to mention. UConn is supposed to be great in Conn, but I hear you need to be in the top 5 percent to have a chance in New York.
Also, what are your career goals? In state/ out of state for Uconn?

Haha! Pretty much. I lived on the lower east side. It can really turn a person bitter and angry. They are like rats. Cool rats. Perhaps you can relate?

You think I need a retake? Like of the LSAT? I got a 167, but the problem was I took in December, and got it in January, so I applied to all of these places late late lateee.
Im also waitlisted at Fordham, Cardozo, BC, and BU. Anyone know the likelihood that these places are still taking off the waitlist? or how long wait list acceptances are generally sent out through before one can expect things to be pretty locked up?

3.032 from Boston College undergrad in the business school. (so that is probably the issue, and therefore unretakable

I would wait out the waitlist. If nothing comes through here...retake or simply reapply next year.
Fordham should be your top priority if you want to work in NY.
Don't know about BU though...how well does BU place in NY....anyone?

well in the interest of full disclosure, since this has moved a little further from the original question, I'm also accepted at Pepperdine in Malibu, and am considering that as well based on being interested in entertaiment law.
i would be alright with working in boston, ny, or cali. i don't think i want to wait it out a full year though. how hard is it to transfer into one of these programs if i start a year at uconn and try to get into one of these after the first year?

BU places about 25%-33% of its class into NYC. However, no one knows if that portion of the class is going into Big Law or if those people are just going back to where they were before school (i.e. people returning home).op-ti wrote:JRey wrote:You think I need a retake? OP: If you want NYC and those are your only three options, Brooklyn. I make no guarantee or warranty that you will find high paying employment.

167 is a good score, if your gpa is decent you should have full rides to both these schools. If you don't from applying so late, then definitely just reapply next year and you'll probably be in at Fordham as well, which is a much better option for NYC.. have a good shot at BU and BC as well. Like I said in my opinion 167 you're set, but if you wait until next year like you should, and think you can do better, might as well re-take it in October just for shits.

I have approx the same stats as you and I think you can do better if you wait and re-apply. I like UConn very much and may well end up there myself, but I wouldn't go there with the idea of working in NYC, I don't think UConn places very well there.
Starting with the idea of transferring is supposed to be a pretty universally bad idea, so I wouldn't bank on that. And Pepperdine would probably be hideously expensive without aid.
Maybe re-apply and try BC (EA), BU and maybe Northeastern for Boston; Fordham and Cardozo and defer at Brooklyn (or ask for $$. I wouldn't pay full price for BLS) for NYC and I have no idea where one would go to be placed in with your stats. Loyola? Keep in mind that LSN seems to show that you will probably be waitlisted at BU, BC and Fordham, but you may get lucky (I'm hoping to!).
A year isn't that long, and I personally would think very hard about either taking on a UConn degree with the idea of working in NY or paying full price for a Brooklyn degree.

Re: Best choice if I want to work in NY? (UCONN vs Brookly Law)
Thanks for all the advice. I already deferred to Brooklyn. Just didn't seem like the right choice.
I am stilll heavily considering both Uconn and Pepperdine with intenet to work in their respective states afterwards. I am certainly remaining open to the waiting lists for both boston and new york schools though.
If I were to wait until next year (though I don't think it's likely in all honesty. I've already put in final notice at work) and apply earlier than I did last year (like immediately), do you really think the likelihood i get accepted raises that much.
I had a 3.032 GPA from Boston College undergrad and a 167 on the LSAT (2nd take). I've worked for a Mutual Fund company for the past two years. I'm talkin about this at the schools i've been waitlisted at primarily (BU, BC, Fordham, Cardozo).

Honestly, none of the schools u have listed are worth full price (maybe UConn with instate), even the schools where u are waitlisted at.

alright, lets just pretend, for posterity's sake, that the money's not an issue.spanktheduck wrote:Honestly, none of the schools u have listed are worth full price (maybe UConn with instate), even the schools where u are waitlisted at.

BC and (I believe) Fordham have pulled from their waitlist this cycle; I don't know if they're going to pull any more, but at least they're not over enrolled. Dunno about the other schools.JRey wrote:I am stilll heavily considering both Uconn and Pepperdine with intenet to work in their respective states afterwards. For some talk of Pepperdine's OCI, see this post and ensuing discussion (and the rest of this overall great thread).
