URGENT NEED OF ADVICE - ST JOHNS UNIVERSITY NO SCHOLARSHIP

Post by hk143 » Thu Jul 15, 2010 5:14 pm

Ok, so I know it sounds insane, but if im highly ranked (top 10%), is there any chance i get get a scholarship as a second year student? im am absolutely not retaking the lsats, i already turned down all my others schools so it is this or nothing. should anyone invest that much with the market the way it is? Plus, I know st. johns is hardly impressive compared to other NE schools. Its not even T20. So can anyone make an argument to why it would not be completely insane to tak eout the loan and attend sju? Please give me so advice, I am so stressed. Thanks!
BTW i already live in NY and have free rent but thats it everything else i need to pay for...

Why is waiting and retaking not an option? What would you do if you said no to St. John's? Can you just do that for a year?

Sure, there are many worse schools out there, but I don't think St. John's is worth sticker. As a wise person told me a long time ago about lower tier schools: It's not about getting in to them, anyone can do that...It's about going for free.

Seriously, what are your other options?

Also, OP, you need to realize that there is a 90% chance that you won't be in the top ten percent. You are NOT a special daffodil.

Second, even if you do make it to the top ten percent, you most likely will NOT get any scholarship money for it. Not many schools do that at all.

Find something else to do.

If you want to be a lawyer, why not retake the LSAT and go to a better school?

If you don't want to be a lawyer, why are you considering law school?

When you say "I am absolutely not retaking the LSATs," it makes you sound like a spoiled child. Just retake the damn LSAT, either now or sometime down the road. Then go to a law school that makes sense financially.

It might be a blessing in disguise.

Anyway, it's not impossible to improve, even if you did receive the same score twice over.

Reevaluate your study habits, then try for round 3 if this is something you really want to do.

Look at me.

You wasted all these years and now you have cut yourself out of every other option.

You can retest as some suggested, and waste one to two more years.

Can you stop wasting the best years of your mind and put it to good use before age hits you in the head with more and more obscene obligations?

Take ths St. John off and pay it off slowly and gradually.

Its not Top 20, but its more tops than you can afford with your life and your time.

Stop wasting more years for chances that are not going to be there.

Dont listen to people that tell you otherwise. They dont know your situation.

Sometimes the most logical thing to do is to wait and wait, other times you need to be more practical with yourself.

This is one of those times.

Take the offer. SIgn the papers today. Dont wait another day.

Its time to move on and make things happen.

keep studying? 5-10 pts and you are playing a whole new ballgame...besides, its not like prepping for lsat is even slightly as demanding as LS exams. if you are burnt out from lsat, it should be a clear sign to look at something else (at least for the time being)

If he really wants to be a lawyer and SJU is the best he can do then I feel (though many others would disagree) he should go if he understands that there is a large chance he may not be able to find employment and an even harder time paying off loans.

That being said, he should definitely reevaluate study habits and retake/reapply before going to SJU.

Take a year off and retake the LSAT. If you aren't willing to put in enough effort to do that, you aren't going to put in enough effort to make top 10%.
