American (Transfer & Sticker) or U Dayton ($$)

Post by jjgott » Wed Jul 14, 2010 4:08 pm

Finished my 1L year at Dayton and received a little bump in my scholly. Just received word I got into American but would be paying sticker. I went to school in the DC area undergrad so I am familiar and comfortable with the area. I am just concerned about the additional financial burden of going to AU sticker. Please help before I have to put in the deposit!

No, not really. The only thing is I already have some Undergrad loans so I am a bit debt averse. I am from the Midwest so I could see myself staying and being happy in the midwest. Just not sure whether the lower debt level after I graduate justifies not trying to get a better job going through American.

I voted American. As overpriced as it is, American will still open more doors than Dayton. Do you know what type of law you want to practice? If you have an interest in tax, you could remain @ Dayton since you're doing quite well, then apply to GWU to get an LLM in taxation & that may also get you into the DC market. I know a few people from Case that have had success going that route.

American's own website estimates annual cost of attendance at $65,646. I failed to look at that before I recommended American. I couldn't see paying $130,000 for two years of law school; maybe you are better off staying at Dayton, where at least you have a high class ranking and a scholarship.
