how many applications is too many??

Post by Barbie » Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:03 pm

I think I'm getting carried away, at fear that I won't apply somewhere and then decide I want to go there (strange, I know). So the question is, how many law schools do most applicants choose to apply to? a few reach, a lot of fits, and a few safeties? I can't decide where to cut it off.

I've been thinking about this too. I've come to the conclusion that fits and safties are just a matter of my top couple choices in that department, but as far as targets go, I would rather apply much too high than regret not spending the extra money on a few applications that could turn out to be the lucky acceptance.

how would you recommend dispersment? 50% apps fit, 25% reach, 25% safe?

Apply wherever you would be happy going to. I'd have at least 2-3 safeties and 2 "probables", but aside from that, apply anywhere you feel like it.

I still find it fascinating how much time and effort you spend on here examining every possible way to try and get in to schools that are almost surely out of your reach, when you could be studying more for the LSAT and raising your score to the point where you wouldn't have to wonder and agonize over it.

To be safe, apply to all ABA approved law schools.

Better apply to the non-ABA approved ones too, just to be safe.

Honestly, apply every freaking where you can afford and think there's even a chance you'd attend. I am currently attending my uber UBER safety school b/c crap out of my control happened. You just never know who'll give you big $$$$ or accept you when you thought you had no chance.

Plus, it makes going to the mailbox each day more entertaining.

dont apply to UF(... figure out where you would like to practice ( region or few states), then apply to as many schools as possible that fit both 1. the location and are 2 within your lsat gpa scores. If you know you will turn them down, even if they accept you, then dont waste your time filling them out.

if you want an ego boost- apply to cooley- they will waive the fee, and offer you a scholarship ( then you will have the opportunity to turn them down, and say that you turned down a scholarship to go to wherever you end up going)

after you retake, apply to all the schools you like plus their peers to try to leverage scholarship money. a little money towards app fees will seem trivial if you get even $10k extra in scholarship money at you want to attend.

but yeah a 163 should be retaken.
