American (sticker) or U of Baltimore ($$)
For a friend: American at sticker (~$40k a year in tuition) or Baltimore (~$10k a year in tuition, in-state)? He's leaning American, btw.

If your friend wants to work outside the Baltimore/Baltimore Metro area, going to UB is a mistake. And even if he wants to stay local, if he got into WCL, UMD should be obtainable too. Maybe apply or re-apply to UMD next cycle? Otherwise, WCL is the better choice. As much as the trolls and sheep on this site want you to believe, with IBR, this isn't financial suicide.

Indentured servitude =/= suicide, but I still don't want it.rockstar4488 wrote:As much as the trolls and sheep on this site want you to believe, with IBR, this isn't financial suicide.

I agree that he should try for UMD.
American is a solid school but WAY overpriced, especially considering that it shares a market with top schools.
Baltimore....it'll be cheap but I don't know how well the degree will serve your friend's needs.
UMD is a good school, and probably less $$ than American.

Yeah he should really reapply and go to UMD it would be the best combination of an instate price and cheap Bmore living while almost as highly ranked as American ... not quite such a fall as UB

Baltimore resident here... UMD will get you a job in Maryland, period. Don't expect to leave. UBalto as well, but less paying jobs than UMD. UMD is still the better investment though.
I really wouldn't pay sticker at American, not with competition from Georgetown and George Washington.
If these 2 schools are your only options, I'd retake the LSAT to see if I could get more scholly money for next cycle. however, if you want to stay in baltimore, then go to UBaltimore. It has very decent placement in the city.

There is NOTHING cheap about Baltimore, unless you want to live in a neighborhood featured in "The Wire". I live in a non-updated 2-bedroom condo that runs $1650/month. DC and Baltimore have similar COL. Baltimore City is super expensive if you live in a SAFE area (which I suggest you do since it's one of the most violent cities in the nation). Now, Baltimore County is significantly cheaper. But then you are stuck commuting into downtown, which sucks.wildflower wrote:Yeah he should really reapply and go to UMD it would be the best combination of an instate price and cheap Bmore living while almost as highly ranked as American ... not quite such a fall as UB
