Tier 1? Uconn?

Post by nevermind55 » Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:04 pm

Hi!

Can anybody tell me if University of Connecticut School of Law is tier 1?

What is the cutoff for tier 1 in terms of ranking?

Thanks!

Depends on what you mean. There used to be 4 tiers: t1, t2, t3, t4, but now there are only 3 official tiers: t1, t3, t4. US News says that the top 100 schools are all tier 1. According to this, UConn is tier 1. However, many people consider tier 1 to mean top 50 and tier 2 to mean 51-100. So to many, UConn is tier 2.

UConn is not tier 1, it’s a tier 2, at least by conventional standards (its rank is like 53). Most ppl agree that the tier 1 is schools 1-50 and tier 2 is schools 51-100. However, USNEWS, which “ranks” the schools lists all schools 1-100 in tier 1. and then there is no tier 2. Just tier 1,3 and 4. Honestly though, don’t get too caught up in the “tier rankings” because after the top 30, maybe less, its all about region.

Aside, just to prove my point…last year ASU was a tier 2 and was ranked lower than U of Arizona, this year it’s a tier 1 and ranked higher than U of Arizona. Do you really think that much has changed in their education between this year and last year? I’m highly doubtful. Just take the rankings for what their worth.
