Georgia v. Alabama
I want to practice in the Southeast and have family ties in both states. I've been accepted to both schools and am having a hard time deciding between the two. I have in-state tuition at Alabama, but Georgia is very generous residency-wise after the first year. My brother lives in Atlanta, while my parents are in Alabama. I have friends in both places and am familiar with both locations. I am interested in doing some statework and then eventually private practice. Any thoughts?

Do you want to work in Atlanta or Birmingham? For the former, UGA, the latter, Alabama (at least unless one is substantially [read as: 15K or more] cheaper than the other).

It really doesn't matter to me. I think I want to work in Atlanta long-term, but I grew up in Alabama, and also see myself there in my latter years.

UGA's on NLJ's Go-To Schools list, BAMA is not. So assuming you'd like to maximize your chances at BigLaw, UGA's probably the stronger program.

1. Pick a state.
2. Go to school there
3. Work in that state for a long time and possibly never leave

Isn't Alabama in-state ridiculously cheap? like 13k/yr? That's quite a deal if you're so torn....and you'd have to pay OOS the first year in GA. What are their res requirements after 1L?
I love Tuscaloosa as well...and you can't argue with the Crimson...
What is your gut telling you in terms of where you'd rather live and work?
