Louisville or Memphis?

Post by Thunder Jones » Wed Apr 28, 2010 3:12 pm

I'm W/L at Tennessee and hopeful (160/3.5), but right now my options are Louisville or Memphis.

I've got scholarship at Louisville and should get some from Memphis.

I'm a Tennessee resident and I want to practice in Nashville.

Thoughts?

Honestly, I'd probably say Memphis because it is in-state even though I firmly believe Louisville is a slightly better law school.

If you do really well at Louisville, most of the big firms in L'ville have offices in Nashville, but you don't want to count on that. Most grads will practice in Louisville. With that said, most Memphis grads will practice in Memphis. However, if you look at all the firms in Nashville, most all will at least have a couple of Memphis Law grads whereas it is hit or miss with Louisville.

How much is the scholarship & the total cost of attending both places? Just throwing this out there in case you didn't know, but getting in-state is not possible at Louisville unless you are already classified as in-state for all 3 years. This is what I know of being a single person moving to the state, so I am not sure if there are some exceptions with a spouse moving & getting a job with you.
