Should I let my BF determine where I go to law school?
I know there's a ton of threads about choosing schools already, so I'll try to make this quick. Here's the situation:
I can't decide between OSU and Case. My boyfriend got an internship he can't turn down at a hospital in Cleveland and choosing Case would mean that we can stay together (I'm against the idea of long distance even if it is only 2 1/2 hrs away). However, OSU is higher ranked, has a better faculty, and I'm interested in ADR which is one of their strong suits, but we would probably break up. We've only been together for about 1 1/2 years and I don't know if I'm thinking about marriage anytime soon.
Case gave me more money and would be cheaper than OSU, but I'm worried about job prospects out of state in the long run.
Is OSU really that much better of a school than Case to throw a relationship away for?

Sorry but lulz if you are even considering this when it doesn't even sound like you really care about the relationship. It's like, "meh, we'd break up, should I throw away this ONLY 1 1/2 year long relationship?" It sounds like you aren't 100% into this guy, why the dilemma?

I would most certainly recommend that you go to the better school. If you feel that OSU is that much better, then thats where you should go. I say this because you sound pretty clear that you aren't thinking about your current relationship as an integral part of your future (plus the fact that you don't believe your relationship could survive even a semblance of "long-distance"). In most cases, I'd say its a very bad choice to give up the school you want to be at in order to be with someone who very well may not be a part of your future. To contrast, I have been dating my girlfriend for 5 years, and I know she is a part of my future. That is why I was willing to pass up WAY better schools in order to stay relatively close. I think you have it pretty good, seeing as both schools are close. And give yourself more credit. Two and a half hours is a quick drive on a Friday after class. I wouldn't even consider that long distance.

Cleveland to Columbus is not long distance. I'm from cleveland and went to OSU, plenty of people dated between cities. That being said goto OSU.

Answer to your thread question: No
And its not like you're leaving the state. I know someone who kept up a relationship from many states away. A few hours is not that big a deal.
Go to the better school, try to keep your relationship going, and enjoy tOSU.

Re: Should I let my BF determine where I go to law school?
I know 2 1/2 hrs isn't that far away, but it just seems like the strain of law school and making a long distance relationship work will take its toll either on schoolwork or the relationship itself. Does anyone have successful long distance relationship stories they'd like to share? I've only heard of bad endings.
Also, it seems like everyone is saying go to OSU....is OSU really that much better of a school than Case to justify potentially losing a great bf?

I know someone on these boards who went to a law school in the Midwest (won't say which because I don't want to out her) whose bf was from Texas. They stayed together all three years and are getting married, from what I've heard.Nat1018 wrote:I know 2 1/2 hrs isn't that far away, but it just seems like the strain of law school and making a long distance relationship work will take its toll either on schoolwork or the relationship itself. both are terrible options. your best bet is to stop taking birth control and get knocked up.

I'm not joking, but that's just me. Neither one of your options is great ITE so take the best option available.Nat1018 wrote:I'm going to assume you're joking? If this is a really serious BF and you are pretty sure you're going to get married, then this is actually pretty good advice for your long term future. Lock it down, babe... you need a sugar daddy to pay off that law school debt.calicocat wrote:I'm not joking, but that's just me. He will likely slow play her. She needs to take matter into her own hands.calicocat wrote:That's what I meant by "Get a ring"MidlawMyth wrote:both are terrible options. your best bet is to stop taking birth control and get knocked up.

As a woman, you obviously lack the intellectual capacity to make this decision for yourself. Leave this one to your better half.

Considering every law school above the T30 is exactly the same ( ), I don't think it really makes a difference.

Hmm...that's interesting..definitely something to keep in mind. Case would be cheaper in the long run.quickquestionthanks wrote:Considering every law school above the T30 is exactly the same ( ), I don't think it really makes a difference.
