what schools have the highest gay populations out of curiousity, and what ones have the least?

Based on the LSAC graph, unsurprisingly, it looks like schools in the NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago metropolitan areas seem to be very gay friendly. In my opinion, and from stalking the (presumably) LGBT posters on this site, these schools are kind of gay:

NYU
Columbia
Fordham
Boalt Hall
Stanford
UCLA
Harvard
Northeastern
University of Colorado
Hofstra University
American
Northwestern

other suggestions?

Definitely Regent University. Conservative evangelicals always turn out to be closeted homosexuals. Don't be surprised if Pat Robertson makes a pass at you.

Haven't been to UMaine yet, but after attending Saint Joseph's College of Maine and seeing Portland, I'm very sure there homosexual population is pretty high. The religious and prejudiced population is pretty high too, so there's a lot of in-the-closet-ness going on. Gay marriage got shot down last year.

The particularly heavily gay schools in the top 50 are probably (with no bias against the others but these are the especially heavily gay ones):

Yale
Harvard
Stanford
NYU
Columbia
Penn
Berkeley
UCLA
USC
BU
GW
Fordham
UC Davis
UC Hastings
American

Which, more or less, is a list of schools in really, really liberal areas. It's largely self-selecting, although a few schools (Penn, GW) are known for actively recruiting LGBT students. (A few schools, like Emory or Texas, also have large openly gay populations for their regions because they are much more liberal than their surroundings.)

All schools, however, will have larger-than-usual LGBT populations except the explicitly conservative-religious schools: BYU, SMU, Baylor, Pepperdine, etc., as well as a small number of secular schools with otherwise conservative leans (notably GMU).

I think NYU is the right answer though. This is anecdotal, but my two gay friends from highschool both went to NYU for college and they talk highly of the gay community there.

I can't believe Michigan hasn't been mentioned. Ann Arbor is an incredibly gay-friendly city. I'd recommend it if you're looking for that kind of place.
