Hello all,
Although I haven't received decisions from 2/3 schools I applied, I guess it is time to make decision where I should throw my deposit. B/w Hofstra and UM, I know UM has a better ranking and maybe good job prospects in Miami. I don't know much about Hofstra, only find out 26 offices in OCI last year. I have to pay full tuitions for both schools. my considerations are from these perspectives(most important to least important)
1. Job opportunity
I want to practice in NY. I am a foreign student and have a LL.M. degree. I would take ny bar this year. So for me, if I am admitted to ny bar, it is a plus to find a job in future. I like NYC personally. So b/w Miami and Hofstra, miami is far away from the market...for hostra, I may not find a job if I am below 30%(is it right?)
2. Academic
Are there any graduate or current students who could give me some thoughts of those two schools? I want to focus in Business/Corporation.
3. Expense
For UM, tuition is 38,000. For Hofstra, 41,000. Regarding living expense, I have checked the rent in UM and I am sure I could find a place 600 per month so that I may spend 15,000 per year in Miami. I am not sure the Hempstead apt.
4. Transfer opportunity
I may apply for transfer. So which one school would give me better chance to get in a higher ranked NY school?
Many thanks and much appreciated!

If you are truly interested in NY placement, then Hofstra is your best bet. Miami is a good school for south florida, but does not carry much weight (at all) in the north east. My suggestion is to go w/ Hofstra

Thanks. I live in Gainesville florida now and I think south florida is a nice place. But regarding job opportunity, I prefer ny because I think there are more chances there and I would be more acceptable as an international student.

I'm not sure if by "ny" you mean the State or the City. If the latter, UMiami J.D. in Miami market >>>>> Hofstra J.D. in NYC market. And plus, Miami is an international city, you'll be as "acceptable" there as in NYCjolin200100 wrote:Thanks. I live in Gainesville florida now and I think south florida is a nice place. Thx Boba Fett. Yes, I mean NYC market. Compared to 99 offices in OCI at Miami, Hofstra has only 26. But I don't know other soft factors beyond the numbers.Boba Fett wrote:I'm not sure if by "ny" you mean the State or the City.
