Re: Tulane sticker or Penn State $$
I'm in the same position as you but change to penn state to a similarly ranked state school.
I'm struggling with the decision but I can tell you that most people will respond and tell you to choose penn st. The common consensus on this thread seems to be that tulane is awesome but not worth sticker when there are other reasonable alternatives.
My gut is telling me to pick Tulane too. I'm going there for the ASW soon. From what I hear I will love it. But I'm telling myself that I need to think like a lawyer and choose the most reasonable choice.
Good thing you can submit your deposit online at tulane. I may be waiting until the 14th to make my decision.
edit- Just checked the results ... hmmm.... maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Tulane sticker or Penn State $$
Take this with a huge grain of salt because I don't really know about the programs of either school as I didn't apply to them, but I'm inclined to vote PSU on this one. I'm not sure what the total cost of attendance comes out to for each but I think PSU (lower COL) and 20k/year will make a significant difference.
Remember that Tulane does better than similarly ranked schools in terms of national placement but it by no means has "national reach" ... most of that is a function I would wager of students coming from other areas of the country to study in New Orleans but then using personal ties to find employment in their home regions.

Where are you from (where do you have personal connections)? What's the difference in total cost of attendance?
Tulane had about 12% in NLJ 250 firms in a good year compared to Penn State's 6%. I don't think the difference is worth $60K or more in loans plus interest.
Also keep in mind that the government positions you described (DOJ, congressional legal counsel) are likely going to be even more competitive than biglaw. So you certainly can't count on any of those jobs even with high grades.

Excellent input - thanks. My decision comes down to lots of debt vs. quite a bit of debt, and even though I've been thinking about this for weeks, it still seems like I've just started weighing my options.
I love TLS.

Voted Tulane. It's so strange, I was accepted at Tulane with $5,000 /yr and outright rejected at PSU.
