Want to hear the opinion of outsiders...
Hey y'all,
I would like to get an outsider's opinion on what the best option for a law school would be and why. I have it narrowed down to the following choices:
Pepperdine U ($20K/yr. Scholarship)
Tulane U ($15K/yr. Scholarship)
Arizona State ($15K the first year, $10K the year after, nothing the last year)
I have also been wait listed at William and Mary (just like everyone else it seems) so if I get in there I am 99.99998% sure I will go. Barring that the options are above. I don't really have a preference on what city I live in (they all seem like nice areas) but I would like to have as much mobility as possible however. I'm also not sure what I would like to study, however I do like Tulane's Sports Law program and I think I may be interested in International law.
I appreciate any advice that can be offered. Thanks!
PS I have Arizona residency.... whatever that does for ya

I'm on that William and Mary waitlist with you, but I won't hold my breath on that one. Tulane gives you the most mobility. Fuck Pepperdine, beautiful school and weather, but you can get almost as good weather with ASU and ASU only competes with Arizona for Phoneix, less taxes than Cali...not a bankrupt state like Cali. So if you want the most mobility go with Tulane. If you want hot chicks and less humidity, go with ASU.

I voted Tulane, but mostly because I like New Orleans.... I actually sort of like Tempe/Phoenix too, but I think I only like it because I spent my whole life in the south/mid-atlantic and it's really exotic to me. Like how flat and smooth the roads are and stuff, and how strange all the little houses look. But I visited Tulane a few years ago with my husband and it's super pretty, and it probably has more lay prestige. Well, it might have more prestige period.

what about the price differential? How much should that be taken into account?

Well how much of a price difference are you looking at between Pepperdine and Tulane, taking your scholarship into consideration? I would think cost of living would be more around Pepperdine but I can't say for sure.

I think thats a pretty safe assumption about Pepperdine. With my scholarships it would cost about 135k at Tulane (over 3 years) and 125k at Pepperdine, though Im not sure how much that factors into the cost of living differences. ASU would be 117k without any scholarship (which I still may get).Well how much of a price difference are you looking at between Pepperdine and Tulane, taking your scholarship into consideration? Another question (probably for those already in law school): How accurate are the numbers on school websites regarding living expenses (ie., rent, personal, transportation, etc.) in law school? I feel like they are gross overestimates but I can't be sure.

Then you can through Pepperdine out. It should be down to Tulane and ASU. I think Tulane has more reach but you will likely be saving a chunk of change going to ASU. If the mobility of the degree is really important to you then go with Tulane. Otherwise I'd probably go with ASU.csgrant5 wrote:I think thats a pretty safe assumption about Pepperdine. Ok I am updating this thread with my new acceptance and financial aid from ASU ($25K over the first two years).
In light of this, where should I go?
