UVA $$ vs. NYU $ A little help here?
Looking to do big law preferably in NYC while minimizing debt. I am getting 90k at UVA and 50k at NYU. UVA also has a COA of $7000-$8000 less than NYU. But NYU is the higher ranked school and in the city I want to practice in. I think going to law school in the village and getting a little bit of the big school life from going to UVA would be equally cool (I went to a small liberal arts school in the middle of nowhere)!!!
Thoughts!?!

0L who will be going to UVA myself with a similar deal, but I think NYU is the right call given your interests.
I'm a para at a high V100 firm headquartered in NY, and its ridiculous how many of our attorneys come from NYU. It seems from my firm's bios that NYU is just that good for NYC biglaw.
Its close enough that you probably ought to visit both schools though, and let your feelings factor into your decision.

If you want to be in NYC, then NYU no question. Anywhere else and I would have voted for UVa$$

I disagree here. NYU's placement in NYC is great, and hooray and all, but UVA's isn't markedly worse. The reason only ~1/3 of UVA grads go to NYC is because of the extremely diverse geographic interests found in its student body. They send about a third to DC, then a third to NYC, then the rest split into the south, texas, California, and Chicago.
That being said, NYC firms love UVA grads. It will be a bit easier to get a job from NYU because they're all next door, more firms will interview on campus, and connections will be easier. But realistically, if you wind up with a 3.X at either institution, you'll have very nearly identical odds at cracking NYC big law if you want it. And UVA is substantially cheaper for you, which will be good if you don't do well enough to crack big law.
Now, with both those acceptances and $$$, you can't go wrong. If you want NYC biglaw, NYU at sticker is a fine choice. But given the options and your preferences, I think UVA deserves much more consideration than it is being given ITT.

I like the above post as a UVA 0L, but if i were you, and you want NYC, take NYU. NYU has ridiculous NYC job prospects, UVA is great, dont get me wrong, but NYU is on another level than them for NYC.

I think it's a close call. UVA is awesome, but I would pick NYU for a couple of reasons:
(1) better connections to NYC firms, regardless of how well UVA places, so more of a guarantee of NYC biglaw if that's what you're wanting
(2) blind? lottery system, whereas I think UVA has one that bases it on grades
(3) 40k difference is significant, but not enough to turn down NYU imo
