Villanova at Sticker?

Post by Spinner » Sun Mar 14, 2010 11:29 pm

Applied and was accepted at all the Philadelphia area schools besides UPenn. I think I've ruled out Rutgers Camden because I'm not crazy about the area, so that leaves me with Drexel with money and Temple and Villanova at sticker.

I'm hoping for a big law placement after graduating, which makes me think I shouldn't do Drexel. Of Temple and Villanova I lean towards Villanova for the suburban feel (just moved out of a city and am liking the change of pace) among other reasons.

After that long intro I'm just wondering about how others made the choice between the Philly schools? Anyone else reluctant to pay sticker but in a position where they think they should? Do we feel Villanova is worth it at sticker? Any other feedback on cutting Drexel out of the running?

Thanks for any help---really appreciate it.

Honestly not trying to sound arrogant, but is any T2 school worth it at sticker? Your chances of biglaw are small, while the debt is huge. IBR helps, but it's still a big risk...

Dreman--Not in state now,but will likely move to PA at some point during law school. I know Temple has a good in state tuition, but that you can only get it after living in state for 12 months. At most I'd probably get in state tuition for a year and a half (not insignificant I know).

Starsong--I'm open to all feedback. No worries

In that case, I would say if anything, Temple has the edge over 'Nova in Philly. Compound that with instate tuition for 1.5 years, why not go there?

I agree, debt/cost should be your primary consideration.

nooyyllib--according to http://www.law.com/jsp/nlj/PubArticleNL ... hbxlogin=1, Villanova placed 16.7% of c/o 2009 grads in NLJ250 firms. That's a small #...

Temple placed 16.2% by comparison, not a significant difference...

i think for OP Temple might be a little better (if you look at the $ issue), Villanova is a private school = no in-state tuition possibility 2L or 3L.

Too bad I was WL at temple and withdrew. But at least Nova is giving me some $...

Sounds like everyone agrees to take Drexel off the table? It's just hard to walk away from money for 2 schools that have offered me nada, but seems like the right choice.

I would contact the admissions offices at temple and nova and are if you could negotiate any aid from them. Personally I would take drexel off the table. Not saying it isn't a good school but for me its still untested.

In state PA Residency isn't a Slam dunk (Unlike NJ for example) - FYI. When negotiating aid, I'd suggest you check with the Fin Aid office to be sure
