DePaul ($$) vs. ND (sticker)

Post by ndpfn » Sat Mar 13, 2010 12:25 am

Seems like an obvious choice to me, but the thought of paying sticker anywhere is bothersome.

Then again, the DePaul scholly requirement (3.2 / top 1/3ish) is pretty iffy.

Any reason not to go to ND?

Any other choices here? The DePaul scholarship may as well be for one semester or year, given the steep requirements.

As far as I'm concerned, no.

Chicago is my desired location, so DePaul trumped the other options that doled out $$$.

Bottom line is it's DePaul with a chance of skating through all three years with the scholly (which would mean a pretty decent GPA for OCI purposes) or biting the bullet on $100k+ debt right away at ND.

You didn't apply to UIUC or Loyola?

Didn't.

I felt good about DePaul from day one, so I didn't bother with Loyola or Kent. I figured those three schools were all going to be pretty similar in terms of getting in with some money, and I like that DePaul's got a good rep in the city as well as good alumni support.

As for UIUC, I know it's a better school than the lesser Chicago schools, but my preference would be to live in the city, where I've got some friends from undergrad.

Enter ND, which was my reach. It's a nice wrench to have thrown into my plan, but I would be giving up first-year money for sure and possibly more, plus living in Chicago.
