Ohio State or Case Western?
I haven't officially decided where I want to practice, but if I were to stay in Ohio...which school would be better?
Which school has a better reputation amongst law firms in OH?

Moritz. Why would you pay double the tuition for a less prestigious school? If you say international law, I'll punch you in the throat.

Re: Ohio State or Case Western?
A friend of mine who goes to a different school in Cleveland said that the guys at the firm he works at, as well as many of the lawyers he has met at various mixers/social functions say that Case has really gone downhill. He said, though I'm not sure if I believe him, that firms often hire Cleveland State grads over Case grads. Take that for what its worth, but the bottom line is that OSU >>>>>>> Case, and its way cheaper.

What about Case with a $20,000 scholarship a year, and OSU at full sticker? Any takers on Case then? I'm debating the same schools... ( I haven't received my scholarship info from Moritz yet, but I'm not expecting much).

OSU sticker > any other school in OH
Also I have heard the same as the above the poster about CSU > Case.

I'm basically in the exact same situation...not expecting much from OSU..but at least there's in-state tuition after the 1st year!Whitters wrote:What about Case with a $20,000 scholarship a year, and OSU at full sticker? I have heard that case does not do well in Ohio, but better in other ENC cities.

If this was my decision, I'd probably take the money at Case and not be happy about it. I love Ohio State, but sticker at any law school is a big ask. It might depend on what the terms of that Case scholarship were.Whitters wrote:What about Case with a $20,000 scholarship a year, and OSU at full sticker? Any takers on Case then? According to their websites, Case costs $40,450/year, while OSU costs $22,414 (though someone on here recently said OSU raised instate to about 24K). Even with a $20K scholarship from Case you're looking at a difference of about 2-4K/year for a better school (for instate--out of state would obviously make the 1st year a different story).Whitters wrote:What about Case with a $20,000 scholarship a year, and OSU at full sticker? Even with the scholarship, I'd have to go with OSU here.

When I read this post, I thought you must have erroneously listed their total cost of attendance. I looked at their website and couldn't believe it.thepcv wrote:According to their websites, Case costs $40,450/year, while OSU costs $22,414 (though someone on here recently said OSU raised instate to about 24K). Re: Ohio State or Case Western?
So, basically, tuition is nearly equal (looking at maybe 10-15k less debt at Case over three years). Since you want to stay in Ohio, you should definitely go to OSU. They are the top dog in Ohio in a general sense, and employment at graduation is a tiny bit higher than Case (84% to 82%) and at 9 months (98.5 to 96).
However, if you have any inkling that you might want to go elsewhere, Case is back in the picture. They have among the largest reaches of any school below T30. I think that the idea that CM (Cleveland State) places better in Cleveland is a fallacy. It's just like Duquesne vs. Pitt in Pittsburgh. There are some firms that are heavily loyal to their school and will hire from them no matter what, but employment stats (even adjusted for BS factor) don't put CM in the same league as Case. They have a lower median and a much lower 25th despite a much lower percentage reporting salary. Plus, Case places notably better into clerkships and PI than CM. Employment at graduation is only 70% (still great for a T3) at CM, versus the aforementioned 82% at Case.
I realize that Case's entrance stats are a bit lower than many peer schools, but employment stats (even adjusted for incomplete reporting) are actually damn good overall, and very comparable to Ohio State. OSU places a bit more in NLJ250, but that doesn't appear to make much of a difference to median salary at nearly identical reporting percentages.

Re: Ohio State or Case Western?
Just received scholly info from OSU. Being instate plus $9,000 a year (wow!) makes OSU the better option for me. I'm still going to visit Case and check it out though. Sorry, OP, for stealing your post. But, I hope this helps!

Re: Ohio State or Case Western?
I also was admitted to both. I'd like to go to school in Cleveland, but OSU seems to have a leg up. Not sure if I want to stay in-state, though. No scholarship info from OSU yet, but I got near full from Case. So, for the moment, Case is actually cheaper. I'm wondering when, if ever, Moritz is going to get back to me.
Tell me more about this 'Case going downhill' stuff. Any specific sources? I know they changed deans recently after the rankings kerfluffle...

OSU by almost any metric. Easy choice.creamedcats wrote:Bump. Got 12k/year from OSU. Three year cost for both schools basically the same for me. Have to decide by next Friday!
