Help Picking a Law School
I'm stuck between Emory, Washington and Lee, William and Mary, and WashU. I have no idea where I want to live, and I am not sure what type of law I want to do. I want the school that gives me the best job options and mobility. Please vote and comment on why and maybe rank the options.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I havent heard back from WashU or W&M. That's why Im interested to see how people would also rank the options in case I dont get into those 2 and the logic behind why one of the other.

I can go ahead and tell you that people are voting the way they are because of rankings. What else do that have to go on? You haven't provided any preferences.

I can say that this is false, at least in my case.GotYourselfAStewGoin wrote:I can go ahead and tell you that people are voting the way they are because of rankings. What else do that have to go on? You haven't provided any preferences.

He did provide preferences. He perfers the school with the "best job options and most mobility." Out of the schools he listed, that school is WashU. Thats why most people are picking it. Emory is a very close second.GotYourselfAStewGoin wrote:I can go ahead and tell you that people are voting the way they are because of rankings. What else do that have to go on? Re: Help Picking a Law School
in actuality, emory would probably be a better option for job prospects since the southern legal markets arent as saturated as the midwest (washu). i go to illinois and i have to compete for jobs with t14 grads, washu, notre dame, indiana, iowa, wisconsin, kent, loyola and depaul grads....all of whom have strong alumni bases in the midwest whereas students at emory compete in a emory dominated market...that is to say if you wanted to practice in ATL, but even in the south...you would have a stronger employment prospect than students from georgia, tulane, wake, unc, umiami, etc. either way, both schools are fine choices and i think they will both provide you with the tools to become a successful attorney.

I think the employment stats for these schools are similar enough that money should be your deciding factor. Surely one of these places is throwing some scholarship money at you.

Does W&L and W&M even compete with Emory? If scholarships are equal should w&m and wl be a contender.

Biglaw placement they're all basically equal. I think WashU has an edge in clerkships/national placement. They're pretty much peers though - I'd take the cheapest (likely WM).

I know you don't know where you want to live, but you need to consider it before making a decision. I know that Emory can carry you throughout the SE market, and up to DC/NY.

They're all peers, with WashU having a little more portability. Thats it. Thats why no one really has a strong opinion.mavsman88 wrote:bump
WM/Emory will both prob. equally take you to NYC, with WM > for DC and Emory > for Atlanta. WL is good for VA, DC, NY prob. less so. Wash U is prob the same for NY as WM/Emory but much better for Chicago.
Choose where you want to live. If prefer DC, go to WM. If Chicago, go to WashU, if NY, none, but I would take one of WM/WashU/Emory.
