ILLINOIS VS WUSTL
WUSTL ranks higher than Illinois but i kind of feel that Illinois has a better reputation and the fact that it is places very well in the chicago market makes it a better choice. Any ideas on this?

UIUC is probably the better choice if you want Chicago, WUSTL for pretty much anywhere else.itsmytime10 wrote:WUSTL ranks higher than Illinois but i kind of feel that Illinois has a better reputation and the fact that it is places very well in the chicago market makes it a better choice. +1. WUSTL also gives you an additional backup market in St. Louis.stratocophic wrote:UIUC is probably the better choice if you want Chicago, WUSTL for pretty much anywhere else.itsmytime10 wrote:WUSTL ranks higher than Illinois but i kind of feel that Illinois has a better reputation and the fact that it is places very well in the chicago market makes it a better choice. The value of a backup market can't be overstated at a non-T13 ITE.im_blue wrote:+1. Don't go to law school unless you want to practice in MO.

^ Ya, especially right now T14 is highly preferable with the job market. But T25 schools can still get you into BigLaw if you are top 1/3

Fact: When Wrigley Field was built, there were poles in the outfield for all of the pennants and World Series victories to come. They have since rusted and were torn down.Halibut6 wrote:FALSE.cardnal124 wrote:Cardinals > Cubs

Fact: In that same time, only the Yankees have more World Series victories than the Cardinals
Conclusion: Cards > Cubs

Can someone explain what these people get out of going into threads that they have no interest in? Is it to stroke their ego or what? Technically, you have no room to talk shit unless you're going to Yale. It's funny how T1s look down on T3s, the top 20 look down on the rest of the top 50, the top 14 look down on top 20, and the top 10 looks down on school ranked 11-14.

Top 1/3 has some chance of biglaw but a poor one. I wouldn't be comfortable personaly if I was outside the top 15%. Fuck dood, there are ppl on UVA's law review with no Biglaw offers.cardnal124 wrote:^ Ya, especially right now T14 is highly preferable with the job market. 24. WUSTL - 27.5%
25. Illinois - 26.7%
So around 27% of Illinois grads go to nlj250 firms. I would say top 1/3 and especially top 15% have a good shot at BigLaw

Old data. Class of 2011 won't more than 15% for each of those schools.cardnal124 wrote:NLJ250 ranks:Veyron wrote:Top 1/3 has some chance of biglaw but a poor one. UIUC is better in Chicago, WUSTL everywhere else.

I don't know if op visited either of these schools but WUSTL is a damn sexy law school. Their law building is one of the best in the top 20, everyone there is super friendly, i've heard nothing but great things about career services, oh ya, and St. Louis is a halfway decent legal market that you could fall back on (provided you demonstrate interest in sticking around for more than a few years). WUSTL is really committed to extending its national reach- unlike Illinois where its Chicago or bust when it comes to biglaw. Also your QOL will be much better in St. Louis- I really enjoyed the area around the school and there is a ton of stuff to do in St. Louis. Champagne is in, well, Champagne.
If money isn't an issue I say wustl all the way
EDIT: And if OP wants chicago, wustl will certainly not shut you out of the windy city, they do place people there every year, however Chicago got slaughtered in the recession so Anywhere outside of Chicago, NW or Michigan (and HYS) will be tough to find work there. Just don't think that UIUC------>Chicago

Thanks. I plan on doing Patent Law and Illinois just seems to be a better school in this field. Plus the demand for Patent lawyers is still very high.

Who's your source on this? I heard wustl has really strong IP offerings/clinics. This was from my tour guide who had some sweet gig lined up in dc so I dunno

This is credited. Go peruse the employment forum if you think c/o 2009 numbers are going to hold up going forward. Using those numbers for a relative comparison in the absence of anything better is semi-worthwhile, but to expect those absolute numbers to remain for c/o 2011 would be crazy.Desert Fox wrote: Old data. To answer OP's question, on the surface they seem like peer schools. This would seem to come down to what school is the best fit.
